The blog saw only two posts on this day ten years ago on 19 june 2010. In contrast, today (19 june 2020) saw two posts getting published simultaneously early morning at 5 AM ! And this is going to be the third post for the day !

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 21

Today’s song is from the movie “Kavi-1954”. I have neither watched the movie nor I am aware of many of its songs. However, when I noticed this movie is due for ‘Blog ten-year challenge’ of 17.04.2020, I checked its pending songs. I came across a duet sung by Rafi Saab and Talat Mehmood which I found interesting since I was not aware of this song. Also, the music of this movie is composed by C. Ramchandra ji one of my favorite music directors which is another reason why I am sharing this song here today.
Three songs were represented on the blog on 17.04.2010 including a song from this movie ‘Kavi-1954’;

“Paataal Bhairavi”(1952) was a remake/ dubbing of a blockbuster Telugu movie of the same name. This movie was produced by B Nag Reddy and Chakrapani and directed by K V Reddy for Vijaya Vauhini Productions, Madras. The producers were the same people who were also behind the publication of the popular Children’s magazine “Chandamama”, which was published in many languages of India.

In one of his earliest posts, Atul ji had said that the Indian people like to talk about 3 things – politics, films and cricket. I am presenting a non-filmi ghazal recorded sometime in the early 1940s which I had heard a few years back. But after a long gap, this ghazal resurfaced when I was looking for information on the music director Chitta Roy in the context of one of the songs, aayi jawaani aayi aayi composed by him. The ghazal is ‘gham-e-zindagi kaa yaa rab na milaa koi kinaaraa’ (1940) sung by Talat Mehmood. Chitta Roy composed the music for this ghazal. The shaayar of this ghazal has been mentioned as I A Minai or Idris A Minai, a name I heard for the first time.

So, the New Year resolution of posting a debutant song daily and a YIPPEE song daily lasted only till the first four months of the year. For the last few weeks, we have struggled to even live up to our name “song a day”.
I was made to take a one week vacation during the last one week. I was unlikely to get any time to post any articles during this time. In fact, it was only then that I realised how much time was needed to publish one simple post.
