23 rd September was Tanuja’s 77th Birthday and 25th September, 2020 is the 81st birth Anniversary of Feroze Khan. Incidentally, these two have acted opposite each other in at least one film, i.e. Ek Paheli (1971). These are three songs already posted in the blog from this film :

‘Basu (Bhattacharya) used to be fired up by one-liners. He drew stories from one-line coming from his fertile mind’ thus said Rinki Roy Bhattacharya, daughter of Bimal Roy and the ex-wife of the late Basu Bhattacharya in an interview. After going through the interviews of Rinki Roy Bhattacharya and Gulzar who had been associated with Basu Bhattacharya, I have come with my own one-liner about Basu Bhattacharya. He made high quality films with low budget. His first film as a producer-director, ‘Uski Kahaani’ (1966) was made with a budget of Rs.one lakh only.
How did Basu Bhattacharya managed to produce and direct low budget films? Except the lead actors, he took his close friends as side actors, lyricists, music director and technicians with a tacit understanding that they will work within his low budget. And none of them seems to mind it as they kept their personal friendship above the professional relationship. He did not shoot the film in a studio but hired flats for shooting. For example, he majorly shot ‘Anubhav’ (1971) in Tanuja’s flat. ‘Aavishkar’ (1974) was majorly shot in his own flat at Khar.

Hindi Songs in Bangla Films – 21

Ashapurna Devi (1909-1995) was a Bengali novelist who wrote more than 200 novels, over 2000 short stories and over 50 children’s books during her life time. It is to her credit that she could contribute so much to the Bengali literature despite being born in a very conservative Bengali joint family in which female members of the household were not allowed to attend school. For male members, private teachers were appointed who will teach them in their home. It is during this time, Ashapurna Devi learnt Bengali alphabets albeit clandestinely when her brothers were being taught in the house. She won many coveted literary awards including Jnanpith Award for her novel Prothom Protishruti (The First Promise) in 1976.

Greetings all for the celebration today – the anniversary of declaration of our nation as a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic.
The Constituent Assembly, consisting of 389 eminent people from across all walks of life and all population segments in the country, was established on 6th December, 1946. After a string of debates, which included public debates in different parts of the country, the Assembly agreed to adopt our constitution on 6th November, 1949. And then on 26th January of 1950, the nation of India, that is Bharat, was declared as being governed according to this document which is the supreme law of our land.

Hullo Atuldom
Wishing everyone a Happy (last) Sunday of 2019. Last chance to be a TEEN for this century.
December saw a few posts from me and like last year I missed sending posts for a few birthdates for which I would have liked to write posts. But here is the song which I was saving up for today.
Today, 29th December we are thinking of THE FIRST SUPERSTAR of Bollywood. Born Jatin Khanna in 1942 in Amritsar and brought up by his adopted parents in Delhi and Bombay. He was a schoolmate of a person called Ravi Kapoor (Jeetendra). They grew up in the old Bombay region of Girgaon and attended school in Thakurdwar area. They were active on the stage in their school and college and even won prizes in Inter-college drama competitions.

Hindi Songs in Bangla Films – 14

‘Antony Firingee’ (1967) was a Bengali film which has attained a classic status among the Bengali films. The film was directed by Sunil Banerjee. The main cast included Uttam Kumar, Tanuja, Lolita Chatterjee, Bhanu Bandopadhyay, Asit Baran, Ruma Guha Thakurta, Chhaya Devi etc. The film was based on a real-life story of Hensman Antony, a Portuguese national, who visited Chandannagar (near Kolkata) with his father, a trader, sometime in the 19th century. However, in the film, the story has some deviation from the real story probably to give a better cinematic depiction of the characters. Welcome all to this ‘pehli taarikh’ of July’2019. We look back to this day ‘ten years back’ in the blog. 01st July’2009 started in the blog with the song from ‘Khota Paisa-1958’, it was followed by a song from ‘Sanjog-1961’, third song of the day was from the 1959 movie ‘Chacha Zindabad’, next song was from the movie ‘Chhailaa Babu-1967’. Fifth song of that day came from 1970 – Man Ki Aankhen. The day was finally rounded off with a song from ‘Preet Ki Dori-1971’.
Today on 1 july 2019, we are starting our day in the blog with a song from the 1971 movie ‘Preet Ki Dori’ which made its debut in the blog on ths day ten years ago.

Saga Of Sleepless Nights – 5

un aankhon mein neend kahaan
jin aankhon se preetam door basey. . .
It was October of 2017, a year and 8 months ago. The previous episode of this series was posted then. After that – this long gap. There have been many a sleepless nights in the intervening months. Yet, somehow I could not get back into the groove with this series. And actually, and inadvertently I should say, two songs that I was saving for this series, got posted otherwise, depleting my list of song. Anyhow, not an issue – the wealth of the Hindi film song still will reveal more songs for this category. 🙂
‘Ek Masoom’, a film from 1969, appears to be a film that likely took some time to get going, get completed and released. This film was rare and unavailable for decades, and it has been recently unearthed and then made available in public domain.

Missing Films of 1960s – 100
Ah, finally, we get to a new type of century today. This series of bringing on board the missing films of 1960s becomes the series that has clocked 100 posts – a first one for our blog. This series got initiated three and half years ago on 30th September, 2015, and we arrive at the century station for it, at the rate of about 2 to 3 songs per month on average. The pace could have been faster, yes, but well, we have what we have. 🙂
