“Dekh Kabira Roya” was a movie from 1957. This movie had some lesser known actors in lead roles, viz Anoop Kumar, Ameeta,Anita Guha, Shubha Khote etc. But that is not why this movie is remembered today. This movie is remembered for the absolutely outstanding music which was composed by Madan Mohan.

I stumbled upon this song from a forgotten movie called “Aulaad”. What a song for nostalgia buffs this turns out to be ! This song is sung by Rafi under the music direction of Chitragupta ( father of Anand Milind) and Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist.

For a long time, I have been confused between this song and the song “aaj kal tere mere pyaar ke charche har zubaan par”. There was much in common between these songs. Both songs were sung by Rafi for Shammi Kapoor and Shankar Jaikishan were the music director in both cases.

I have mentioned earlier theat there are bollywood songs for different peiods of the day. I have mostly dwelt upon late night songs which I call “chaayaget” songs in honour of Vividh Bharati programme of that name. But what about evening songs ?

It is a song that is less popular than other songs from this movie. And reasons are not too far to seek. It is a semi classical song, and such songs are rarely popular with lay audience.

I, as well as my readers are not ashamed of being nostalgic. It is a natural outcome of enjoying songs that were created many decades ago. When we listen to these songs and watch their picturisation, the experience is very much like walking down the memory lane and reliving the past.

This superb movie called “Khamoshi” not only had a good story line and good actors, it had good music as well. Hemant Kumar’s music and Gulzar’s lyrics were just out of this world.

“Khamoshi” (1969) was a superb movie, and it earned rave reviews when it was released. It was a labour of love for the director Asit Sen (not the comedian Asit Sen but a different person) and it was a remake of his own bangla movie called “deep jwele jaaye” (1959).
