I have posted several songs from “Alif Laila” (1953) in this blog. Here is the song from this movie which gets played as the movie is coming to a close. I categorise such songs as “movie ending songs” and we often have some really memorable songs like that.

I have never heard of a movie called “Roshni” (1949). But that did not prevent me from stumbling upon a song from this movie.

Out of all the modes of public transport, tri wheeler Cycle rickshaw (popularly called Rickshaw) has been one of the most popular mode of transport of most Indians for several decades. This kind of rickshaw is ubiquitous in Indian cities even today, except in some metropilital cities where it is not allowed. You can see cycle rickshaw in Old Delhi, but not in New Delhi, for example.

It is said that Indians do not have sense of humour, and that is why comedy movies in India in general and Bollywood in particular have been few and far between. Movies dealing with action, romance, mythology and many other subjects are common but movies dedicated to comedy are very few.

“Alif Laila” (1953) was a movie starring Asha Mathur, Vijay Kumar and Nimmi. The movie apparently had the love triangle story. Of course, my guess is purely based on the songs of this movie. How did I deduce that ? well, in the earlier songs, I saw Asha Mathur and Vijay Kumar singing love songs for each other. On the other hand, the song that is the subject of discussion here has Nimmi singing a sentimental song where she expresses her love for Vijay Kumar and states that it was not possible for her to forget him.

When it comes to a movie called “Albelaa”, there have been two movies of this name. “Albelaa” (1952) , which had Bhagwan and Geeta Bali in lead roles was a mega hit. This movie was a musical blockbuster too. Another movie of the same name was released in 1971. This movie, which was produced by Mehmood was not a success at the box office, but this movie had some very nice songs in it. I have already posted one lovely song-Devta maanaa aur pooja teri tasweer ko (Albelaa) – from this movie.

Here is a song from “Aaya Saawan Jhoom Ke” (1969). It is prima facie a boat song, but on second thoughts it is an inspirational song as well.

Here is a qawwali from “Dharmputra” (1961) which I am told is a very popular qawwali. Farmaish for this song was given by Sid and Raja very promptly provided me with the lyrics of this song, telling me that this song is one of his all time favourites. Thanks to the lyrics provided by him, the time needed for getting the lyrics right (which is the major job for me while posting any song) was saved, and here is this qawwali.
