Not much is known about the movie called “Nayaa Ghar” (1953). But this movie has some nice songs in it which may be rare, but they deserve to be better known among music lovers.

I have posted a few songs from “Doctor” (1941) in this blog. As a kid, I was not much into old movie songs like this one, but now I realise that it was movies like this, that helped build the foundation of Hindi movie industry.

Of late, I have started catching up on movies of the 1970s. I may or may not have seen the movie earlier but even if I have seen it earlier, I have no proper recollection of the story.

Here is a “roadside tamasha” song from “Biraadari” (1966). In this song Shashi Kapoor and Memmood, donning striped lungis 😀 give a vigorous and boisterous dance performance. Such dances are right up the alley of Mehmood, but even Shashi Kapoor gamely hangs on and manages to keep pace with Mehmood.

Apni bhi kyaa zindagi hai niraali

When one thinks about a drunkard going past a deserted street at night, then what Mukesh song appropriate to the occasion occurs to one’s mind ? Is it Zindagi khwaab hai (Jaagte Raho) ? This song was picturised on Motilal, who was a distant relative of Mukesh.

It is difficult to imagine how Mukesh (of dard bhare naghme fame) would sound on Mehmood (known for loud comedy). Well, stereotyping aside,we actually have instances of Mukesh singing for Mehmood.

Chaand ko dekho ji

There are people who preach us to save for a rainy day. If you talk to me about saving for a rainy day,I will reel off the list of songs picturised on a rainy day to try and prove that rainy days are as much fun as sunny days. If one does not save for a sunny day, then why should one do so for a rainy day ? One should instead enjoy rainy days by getting drenched in the rain instead of hiding indoors. Next thing you know, the same people may ask us to save for a moonlit night saying that nights are for going to bed !

I can watch songs of a movie any number of times. On the other hand, I find watching the same movie a waste of my time. Perhaps I have become “mature” with time. As a sign of this “maturity”,I would rather spend three hours trying to get the lyrics of a song right than watch the movie containing this song which may take less time.:D

It is practically impossible to talk of actors or hit films of Bollywood of the early 70s and not speak of Rajesh Khanna in the same breath. He was synonymous with Bollywood hit movies at that time and though other heroes did manage a few hits between them, he was THE towering figure amongst them all at that time.
