Kabhi raat din ham door thhey

These days I have begun to look at Rafi-Lata duets with renewed interest. My interest has been aroused after I learnt some interesting statistics about the number of duets the two have sung together. It is estimated that the duo have sung about 410 odd duets. It excludes those songs in which some other voices were also present. And it also excludes multiple version songs (viz. same song sung separately by the two).
When I looked at the list of Rafi-Lata duets discussed in the blog, I realised that we have already discussed as many as 179 Rafi-Lata duets out of 410 odd. So nearly 40 % of all Rafi-Lata duets have already been discussed in these pages. It is quite a good progress in just over three years, and that too without making any conscious effort to achieve that.
Here is another addition in the blog to the Rafi-Lata duets. This song is from “Aamne Saamne” (1967). This Rafi-Lata duet is picturised on Shashi Kapoor and Sharmila Tagore. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.
I had never heard this song before and I became aware of this song only recently when the lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra. What a lovely song ! It quickly grows upon you after you have listened to it a few times.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)
Kabhi raat din ham door thhey
din raat ka ab saath hai
kabhi raat din ham door thhey
din raat ka ab saath hai
wo bhi ittefaaq ki baat thhi
ye bhi ittefaaq ki baat hai
wo bhi ittefaaq ki baat thhi
ye bhi ittefaaq ki baat hai
kabhi raat din ham door thhey
teri aankh mein hai khumaar saa
meri chaal mein hai suroor saa
teri aankh mein hai khumaar saa
meri chaal mein hai suroor saa
ye bahaar kuchh hai piye huye
ye samaa nashe mein hai choor sa
ye samaa nashe mein hai choor sa
kabhi in fizaaon mein pyaas thhi
ab mausam-e-barsaat hai
wo bhi ittefaaq ki baat thi
ye bhi ittefaaq ki baat hai
kabhi raaat din hum door thhey
mujhe tumne kaise badal diyaa
hairaan hoon main is baat par
mujhe tumne kaise badal diyaa
hairaan hoon main is baat par
mera dil dhadkta hai aajkal
teri shokh nazron se poochhkar
teri shokh nazron se poochhkar
meri jaan kabhi mere bas mein thhi
ab zindagi tere haath hai
wo bhi ittefaaq ki baat thi
ye bhi ittefaaq ki baat hai
kabhi raat din ham door thhey
yoon hi aajtak rahen ham juda
tumhen kya mila hamen kya milaa
yoon hi aajtak rahen ham juda
tumhen kya mila hamen kya milaa
kabhi tum khaffa kabhi ham khaffa
kabhi ye gila kabhi wo gila
kabhi ye gila kabhi wo gila
kitne bure the woh din sanam
kitni haseen ye raat hai
wo bhi ittefaaq ki baat thi
ye bhi ittefaaq ki baat hai
kabhi raat din hum door thhey
din raat ka ab saath hai
kabhi raat din ham door thhey

You had not heard this song before, Atul? It is a pretty well-known Rafi-Lata duet of the 60s. I remember having it in my Rafi-Lata cassette collection too (along with songs like “saathiya nahin jaana” and “rut hai milan ki”) . It is a very pleasant song to listen to.
Oh,, I didn’t know there were about 410 Rafi-Lata duets. And we’ve already got 179 of them here. Ok, so the hunt begins! 🙂
Thanks for this song, Atul.

Atul was probably too young at that time! On the other hand, I knew the song well! I didn’t see the movie because I couldn’t stand Sharmila Tagore’s simpering in those days, and Anupama was the first time I actually liked her. Thanks for the song, Atul!

You are right. I hated sharmila tagore for her mannerisms in her first bunch of films.
Gulzar projected her in his MAUSAM without her typical ADAAS, and the result was fabolous on screen.
I loved her acting in her later films like MAUSAM, NAMKEEN,SUNNY,
DOOSRI DULHAN,CHARITHRAHEEN,DESHPREMEE,VIRUDDH etc
