Aaj ki raat nahin shiqwe shikaayat ke liye

Posted on: February 20, 2012

“Dharmputra”(1961) was a movie made on the sensitive matter of communal harmony. And not surprisingly, this movie was produced by B R Chopra, who in the past had tackled other sensitive topics in his earlier movies e.g. “Sadhana” (1958) and “Dhool Ka Phool” (1959).

The same musical team of the above mentioned movies created the music of “Dharmputra” (1961) too, and not surprisingly, the musical team came up with some great musical scores yet again.

As many as four songs from “Dharmputra” (1961) have been discussed in the past. Here is another fantastic song from the movie. This song is a wedding night song, which is sung by Mahendra Kapoor and it is picturised on Rehman and Mala Sinha.

The lyrics of Sahir Ludhianvi are romantic and sensuous and describe the situation wonderfully well. N Datta’s music and Mahendra Kapoor’s voice then go on to make this song a divine song to listen to. Picturisation of the song is just as wonderful.

Here is this song from “Dharmputra” (1961) which is a creation of inspiration and perspiration at just the right proportion.

Song-Aaj ki raat nahin shiqwe shiqaayat ke liye(Dharmputra)(1961) Singer-Mahendra Kapoor, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-N Datta

Lyrics

Aaj ki raat nahin
shiqwe shikaayat ke liye
aaj har lamhaa
har ek pal hai muhabbat ke liye
reshmi sej hai
mehki huyi tanhaayi hai
aaj ki raat
muraadon ki baaraat aay hai
aaj ki raat

har gunaah aaj
muqaddas hai farishton ki tarah
kaanpte honthhon ko
mil jaane do rishhton ki tarah
aaj milne mein na uljhan hai na ruswaayi hai
aaj ki raat muraadon ki baaraat aayi hai
aaj ki raat

apni zulfen mere shaane pe bikhar jaane do
is haseen raat ko
kuchh aur nikhar jaane do
subah ne aaj na aane ki qasam khaayi hai
aaj ki raat
muraadon ki baaraat aayi hai
aaj ki raat

This song is indeed a lovely one! But my favourite is the soulful “Main jab bhi akeli hothi hoon, tum chhupke se aajathe ho….” sung so feelingly by Asha Bhosale! And it’s picturised so beautifully on Mala Sinha!
