In this blog, there are songs that belong to the category of “Why was this song not discussed earlier” category. Then there are cases of movies where the movie itself was/is not represented in the blog. “Aradhana” (1969) was one movie that was not represented for a long time. Same was the case with “Khilona”(1970).

Chal chal re naujawaan

When I saw the lyrics “chal chal re naujawaan” in a song from “Ek Phool Do Maali” (1969), I was surprised. People may wonder why I should be surprised if I had watched the movie. Indeed I had watched the movie, but my selective memory ensures that I only recall the details of movie watched in my younger days and details of movies that I watched much later are not retained in my memory (not enough space in the memory, perhaps 🙂 ).

“Khota Paisa” (1958) was a Sadiq Production movie. It was produced and directed by M Sadiq. This movie had Johny Walker, Shyama, Veena,Jeevan, Dhumal, Nissar Ahmed Ansari, Rajen Haksar,S.N.Bannerjee, Amir Bano etc in it.

“Anokhi Ada”(1948) was a Mehboob Productions movie. Mehboob Khan was the producer and director of this movie. Star cast of the movie had Surendra, Naseem, Pratima Devi, Zeb Qureshi, Cuckoo, Prem Adeeb, Bhudo Advani, Nawab, Murad, etc in it.

I have discussed it in the past that there are very few songs in Hindi movies which are picturised on dogs. Now that I have mentioned this fact, our alert contributors are bound to inform me when they come across any such songs.

It is a commonly held view that obscure movies and songs are those that were created long long ago. But that is not always the case. There could be movies and songs that may have ended up as obscure even if they may have been created as late as in 1980 !

“Umrao Jaan” (1981) is a treasure of some of the finest ghazals that have been created in Hindi movies. Most of these songs are sung by Asha Bhonsle in the movie, but there are songs in other voices too in this movie.

Manoj Kumar, like the politicians of those days, had hit upon the formula of championing the cause of the “Aam Janta” and he would make movies where he played a character appropriately called Bharat who would take up cudgels on behalf of the public.
