Bechaara dil kyaa kare

Posted on: June 27, 2012

“Khushboo” (1975) was based on a Bangla story namely “Panditmoshai” written by Sharat Chandra Chatterji. The movie was a Tirupati pictures combine presentation. It was produced by Prasann Kapoor, who if I remember correctly was the brother of Jeetendra.

Gulzar was the director of the movie. The movie had Jeetendra, Hema Malini, Master Raju shrestha,Farida Jalal, Leela Mishra, Durga Khote, Sarika, Asrani, Chandrima Bhadhuri, Harish Magan, Sharmila Tagore (in a special appearance), Pratimadevi, Devkishen, Sudhir Thakkar, Nasir, Bhola, Om Shivpuri etc.

Here is a delightful sopng from “Khushboo”(1975). It is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Farida Jalal, Hema Malini and Master Raju. The picturisation shows Farida Jalal and Hema Malini carrying their vessels to bring water from the river, while Master Raju accompanies Hema Malini.

Gulzar is the lyricist. Music of this song is composed by R D Burman whose birth anniversary falls today (27 june).

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra a few days ago. Later on Khyati Bhatt too sent the lyrics of this song to me.

Song-Bechaara dil kyaa kare (Khushboo) (1975) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Gulzar, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

bechaaraa dil kyaa kare
arre bechaaraa dil kyaa kare
saawan jale bhadon jale
saawan jale bhadon jale
do pal ki raah nahin
ho do pal ki raah nahin
ek pal ruke, ek pal chale
ek pal ruke, ek pal chale

gaanon gaanon mein
ghoome re jogi
rogee changey kare
mere hi man ka taap na jaane
haath na dharey
ahaaaaaa aaaa
aaaa aaaaaa.aaaaa
bechaaraa dil kyaa kare
arre bechaaraa dil kyaa kare
saawan jale bhadon jale
saawan jale bhadon jale

tere waaste laakhon raaste
tu jahaan bhi chale
mere liye hain tere hi raahein
tu jo saath le
aaaaaa aaaaa aaaaaa
hmmmm hmm hmm hmm…
bechaaraa dil kyaa kare
arre bechaaraa dil kyaa kare
saawan jale bhadon jale
saawan jale bhadon jale
do pal ki raah nahin
do pal ki raah nahin
ek pal ruke, ek pal chale
ek pal ruke, ek pal chale

‘Khushboo’ was a beautiful movie. It was in movies like this and ‘Lal Pathhar’ that Hema Malini shed her glamourous image and emerged as an actress of extraordinary calibre.
In this movie, another famous song was ‘Do nainon me aansoo bhare hain…’ sung so soulfully by Lata. Farida Jalal was unforgettable as Hema’s friend. She’s a naughty chatterbox of a girl. Our hearts break when she leaves the village as a bride; and returns a widow.
Jeetendra was too good as a serious, duty conscious doctor.
Gulzar’s direction, as usual, was excellent.

Mani ji

I want to include some names of my favourite movies of Hema Maliniji:

1)Kinaraa(1977)(director:Gulzar)(Played a role of blind dancer)
2)Dillagi(1978)(director:Basu Chatterjee)(Played role of Chemistry
4)Ratnadeep(1979)(Produced By Hema Maliniji`s Mother Jaya -Chakravorthy and Girish Karnaad was casted opposite Hemaji )(Must -be a screen adaption of famous literary work, I am unable to remember -the name of the novel or story)
5)Swami(1977)Produced by Hemaji and her mother starring Girish -Karnad,Shabana Azmi,Vikram & directed by Basu Chatterjee)
6)Rihaaee(1988)(directed by women Director Aruna Raje)(Hema ji got -very good role in this movie opposite Vinod Khanna,Naseeruddin Shah -and other art house movie biggies)
7)Ek chaadar Maili si(1986)(played the role of Punjabi Housewife)

Prakash ji, Hema Malini was so convincing in ‘Ek Chadhar Maili si’! If you haven’t seen it, do so. Now! She and Rishi Kapoor were just amazing in this movie!

Thank you Mani ji
Sure, I will watch the full movie.
I had seen only a song video of this movie(Asha Bhosle song:”Mar gayee mar gayee, main wahin pe mar gayee featuring Hema Malini, Shammi aunty,Geeta Siddharth-one punjabi dance song).Hema ji emoted very well in that song itself.

One of my most favourite songs. Just one question…is it — “gaanon gaanon mein ghoome re jogi” or “gaaon gaaon mein ghoome re jogi”?

meshrath ji
u r right it is indeed “gaaon gaaon” and not gaanon gaanon

This is my absolute favourite song. Thanks for the reminder. I had not forgotten it, but just hadnt heard or seen it lately. A wonderful specimen of a chirpy, cheeky song with nothing really serious, and just the right teasing tune. The picturization is also very pleasing and adds to the beauty of the song.
