Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Allah megh de paani de

Posted on: July 19, 2012

Yesterday (18 july 2012) was a sad day for followers of Hindi movies, especially for those who lived through 1970s. Rajesh Khanna (29 december 1942- 18 july 2012) is no more. He was only 69. It was not an age to go.

I and other regulars of this blog will miss him a lot. He burst into the Hindi movie scene like a star, shone brightly for nearly four to five years (15 hit movies in a row) and then declined, his unprecedented superstardom certainly playing a part in his decline.

When Rajesh Khanna realised the mistakes of his superstardom days, he tried to make amends and tried comebacks. During his second innings on his bid to comeback, he worked in movies with better storylines and he played an actor and not a star in these movies.

I have not seen “Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein” (1977), but judging by the songs of this movie, it was a nice movie. Unfortunately the movie failed at the box office, because the movie goers were not mature enough to appreciate movies that were even stighly off the beaten track.

I have discussed two lovely songs from this movie in the past, including the heart warming song Daakiya daak laaya.

As a tribute to the departed soul, who gave us so much joy during his time with his screen presence, here is a song from “Palkon Ki Chhaaon Mein” (1977). The song is mainly sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle and lip synced by Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini respectively. There is another uncredited voice in the song. Prakashchandra, who sent me the lyrics of this song believes that the voice could be that of Shahid Bijnori, the person who plays a blind fakir in the picturisation. Then there are a couple of lines sung by the same or perhaps another uncredited singer, who sings for an actor playing a potter in this song.

Here is this delightful song from “Palkon Ki Chhaaon Mein” (1977). The picturisation shows residents of a village suffering from drought and they are eagerly waiting for rain to come. At the end of the song, the rain arrives, much to the unbridled joy of the villagers.

The song is written by Gulzar. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Just 5 years ago, he was healthy, but family
wasnt around to share his joys:

And may be loneliness turned him into a skeleton 😦

I guess, Zindagi Aur Maut Uparwale Ke Haath mein hai:
