“Godaan”(1963) was based on a well known story written by Hindi author Munshi Premchand. The movie was a Jaeley Pictures production. It was directed by Trilok Jetley. The movie had Raj Kumar, Kamini Kaushal, Mehmood, Shobha Khote, Tuntun, Shashikala, Madan Puri, Ravikant, Manhar Desai, Trilok Jetley, Nand Kishore, Ragini, Bipin Gupta etc in it.
This movie was based on village life of UP. The language of the movie as well as those of songs were appropriately rural.
As many as four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.
Today (30 august) happens to be the birthday of Shubha Khote, the leading lady of “Godaan”(1963). On this occasion, here is a song from this movie. The song is sung by Lata and chorus and it is picturised on Shubha Khote and others. Anjaan is the lyricist. Pt Ravishankar, who later made his mark as an internationally acclaimed Sitar exponent, is the music director.

To me… in “Dekh Kabir roya” is one of the best and the vibrant portrayals of his career..

This song is just SO beautifully composed by Pandit Ravishankar.
Wish Shubha Khote a very happy birthday. I will always remember her for her role in Dekh Kabir Roya, her (somewhat negative) role in Paying Guest, her role in Seema – and her numerous roles opposite Mehmood of course. Some famous songs have been picturised on this pair like “gori chalo na hans ki chaal”, “jaana tumhaare pyar mein”, “main rangeela pyar ka raahi”, “wo din yaad karo”, and many more.
