Recently, I came across a duet song ‘ek do teen chaar’ sung by Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar from the film MUQADDAR(1950). I remember this film in which the lead actor Nalini Jaywant had sung three songs in her own voice, one of which has already been discussed in this blog.

“Anokhi Ada” (1948) is a treasure of great songs. Like most music lovers, I was only aware of the just the few songs from this movie that were the most popular ones. But subsuquently, I have been discovering the remaining songs of this movie, mainly because the lyrics of the remaining songs from “Anokhi Ada” (1948) have been sent to me by Atif M. Yesterday I discussed an untypical composition from this movie which was a soft song, which sounded like a western music based composition. And here is a lovely folk music based composition from “Anokhi Ada” (1948) which has bowled me over at the very first listening.

A few days ago the song “Ajeeb saanehaa mujh par guzar gayaa yaaron” from “Gaman”(1979) sung by Hariharan was posted. This has reminded me of a couple of songs of Hariharan which are my personal favourites. Here is a song from the Film “Ham dil de chuke Sanam” (1999) which Hariharan sang. The music score is by Ismail Darbar and lyricist is Mehboob. And Kavita Krishnamoorthy’s voice is also there at the end of the song, singing no words only the alaap. So technically it is a duet.

“1942 A Love Story” (1993) was a movie which was produced by Vidu Vinod Chopra and directed by Vidu Vinod Chopra. The movie, despite its publicity, was no great shakes.

But the music of this movie was quite a revelation. This movie was released a few months after the death of R D Burman. When music lovers heard the music of this movie, they sat up and took notice. Some reviwers even went as far as to state that this was the music ever composed by R D Burman ! I am not one to indulge in such odious comparisons, but I was one of those music lovers who found the music of the movie quite divine. When I went on to watch the movie, I found the movie quite a let down. The movie was supposed to be a period movie on 1942 but all the characters dressed, looked and behaved like people of 1990s.

Yesterday Raja got me going on Geeta Dutt-Rafi duets after he sent me some statistics regarding Geeta Dutt songs in general and Geeta Dutt-Rafi duets in particular. According to those details, Geeta Dutt has sung most number of her songs for Chitragupta (about 100 songs). Also, Geeta Dutt has sung 155 duets with Rafi, and most number of these duets (30 numbers) are with Chitragupta, which may come as a surprise for music lovers, who may guess otherwise.
