A new film on the blog. And another one that tells us that the producers will go after some very strange names as the film title. Hollywood may have come out with films like ‘Telefon’, ‘Cellular’, ‘Phone Booth’ etc. much later. The Hindi film industry already had a film titled ‘Trunk Call’ way back in 1960. And today this film makes a debut on this blog.

‘Changez Khan’, the film from 1957, boasts of the iconic Rafi rendition “Mohabbat Zinda Rehti Hai. Mohabbat Mar Nahin Sakti”. Coming from the banner of NC films, this is a home production of Hansraj Behl and his family. The film is produced by Gulshan Behl (brother of Hansraj Behl), and is directed by Kedar Kapoor. The star cast is impressive and includes Premnath, Bina Rai, Sheikh Mukhtar, Johnny Walker, Jeevan, Tiwari, Leela Misra, Ramesh Thakur, Helen, Khursheed, Sandow, Jai Singh, Satpal, Bakshi, Chaman Lal, Aazam, B Saagar. The songs of this film are penned by three poets – Qamar Jalaalabaadi, Saraswati Kumar ‘Deepak’ and Verma Malik. This particular song is written by Qamar Jalaalabaadi. And yes, the music is by Hansraj Behl. The film has a total of six songs, four of which are already present on this blog. In March last year, when Atul ji had posted the wonderful melody “Apne Khayaalon Ko Samjha Deejiye. . .”, from the 1955 film ‘Marine Drive’, I was instantly bowled over by this stunning sound that I had then heard for the first time. And it went on to reinforce, the lofty stature of N Dutta, the music director of this film, as one of the most talented composers from the 50s and 60s.

Well, yes, there is a film by the name ‘Great Show of India’. Released in 1958, it is a social drama from the banner of Chitra Bharati, Bombay. By some accounts, it appears to be a story built around a circus company. I request our more knowledgeable team members and readers to please add more information about this film. The film is directed by C M Trivedi and Chandrakant. The cast of actors includes Kamini Kaushal, Mahipal, Tiwari, Maruti, Kamal Kapoor, Mirza Musharraf, Moni Chatterjee, Kamal, Jugnu, Gamdiya, Bhujbal Singh, Reva Rakshit.

The name of SHABISTAN evokes the memories of a very handsome and jovial actor-SHYAM.

“Uphaar” (1971) was a Rajshree Productions movie. It was produced by Tarachand Barjatya and directed by Sudhendu Roy. The movie had Jaya Bhaduri, Kamini Kaushal, Nana Palsikar, Nandita Thakur, Suresh Chatwal, Yunus Perwaiz, Ratnamala, Leela Misra, Shail Chaturvedi, Rajoo, Swaroop Dutta etc in it.

“Victoria no 203” (1972) was produced and directed by Brij Agrawal. The movie had Navin Nischol, Saira Bano, Pran, Ashok Kumar, Pratima Devi, Anwar Hussain, Mohan Choti, Ranjeet, Meena Rai, Lolita Chatterjee, Anoop Kumar, Chaman Puri, Jagdish Raaj, V. Gopal etc in it. Though Navin Nischol and Saira Bano were the lead pair in this movie, it was the pair of AShok KUmar and Pran that stole the show.
