The Voice of Mukesh #34
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
We shall now start with the pending songs from 1949. Starting with Mukesh’s debut in 1941 with the film ‘Nirdosh’, we have now covered all the songs till the end of 1948, except for the following four.
1. “Tumhin Ne Mujhko Pyaar Sikhaaya” – duet from ‘Nirdosh’ (1941), sung by Mukesh and Nalini Jaywant. No records were made of this song. Unless the video of this film surfaces, we can surmise this song to be a lost cause.
2. “Aagre Se Odhni Mangaa De Baalma” – duet from ‘Laakhon Mein Ek’ (1948), sung by Mukesh and Shamshad Begum. The song is available, but not available online as yet. Till some benevolent soul uploads it, it is in hiding.
3. “Ae Duniya Bataa De Hamein Bhagwan Kahaan Hai” – solo from ‘Jeene Do’ (1948). The version available online is incomplete, and I am continuing to search for the complete song.
4. “Hoshiyaan Naujawaan, Jaag Ae Naujawaan” – solo from ‘Pardesi Mehmaan’. Once again, not yet available and I am continuing to search.
By the close of 1948, as per known data so far, Mukesh had recorded 83 songs, and on this blog, we have 79 of them already posted, and hoping to bring in at least 3 of the remaining 4 also, very soon.
The year 1949 continues to be very busy for Mukesh. 30 songs recorded in this year, of which 22 are already posted on this blog. The year boasted of several hit films for Mukesh, notably ‘Andaaz’, ‘Barsaat’, ‘Shabnam’, and ‘Sunehre Din’. With this post, I bring up another darling of a duet song from the film ‘Thhes’. A production from the banner of Oriental Pictures, the film is directed by Kidar Sharma, who has also written the lyrics of some of the songs in this film. This song is written by him. The music composition is by VG Bhatkar, using his pseudonym ‘Snehal’. The film’s star cast includes Shashikala, Purnima, Bharat Bhushan, Himmat Rai, Gyani, Kumari Sahu, Maruti, Babu Rai, Kanwal Mehra. Interesting to see the names of
Shashikala and Bharat Bhushan appearing most likely, as the lead pair.
The song is sung by Mukesh and Rajkumari. A song of promises of love, with the lovers asking each other that their love will not be forgotten or betrayed by the other. Words are simple, and yet very sensitive and touching. And melody – ah, so endearing. Just the starting line “Bolo Bolo Sajan”, and the voice of Rajkumari – is such a tickle in the fancy of the heart. Listen and enjoy this wonderful and rare gem, from more than six decades ago.

Mahesh ji,
Thanks for your note, and the help with the search.
The first of these four songs, the Mukesh – Nalini Jaywant duet will not be available, as it was never released on a record.

Sudhirji,
Nice Summarisation.
Many Thanks for yet another gem.
Though unlikely to succeed, self will also test surfing skills for the balance 4 songs.
