In this blog I dream of the day when we will cover so many songs that our readers will struggle to give me the farmaish for undiscussed songs.:) Considering the number of songs that are not yet discussed in the blog, that day is far off. But there are very few cases where we have reached that stage already. For instance, we have covered all the available Hindi film/ non film songs of K L Saigal and there are no K L Saigal left to be covered. Similar is the case more or less for the songs of Sajjad Hussain too.
Today (11 december 2013) is the 91st birth anniversary of Dilip Kumar (DOB 11 december 1922). I became aware of today being his birthday in the morning itself. But when I decided to find Dilip Kumar songs to discuss on the occasion, I realised that almost all the Dilip Kumar movies have already been painred orange, viz all the songs of these movies have already been discussed in the past. There are a few Dilip Kumar movies where a few songs are not yet discussed, but these songs are picturised on actors other than Dilip Kumar. I found a few songs where Dilip Kumar shared shared the same playback voice with other actor, almost playing second fiddle, and a song picturised on Dilip Kumar alight but the song was too brief. “Insaaniyat” (1955) is a movie that illustrates my dilemma quite clearly.
So, inadvertently and almost unnoticeably, almost all songs lip synced by Dilip Kumar have been covered in the blog. With some conscious effort, that day is not far off when Dilip Kumar too will join K L Saigal in the sense that we will have no more Dilip Kumar song to discuss.
After searching long and hard, I zeroed on a song from a movie that came towards the fag end of Dilip Kumar’s career. This movie is “Saudaagar” (1991) and the song is “imli ka boota beri ke ped”. This well known song from “saudaagar” (1991) appears thrice in the movie though myswar describes this song as just a two part song. The main part of song is sung by Md Aziz and Sudesh Bhonsle and it is picturised on Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar. One part of the song (labelled part II in YT) shows the same song being sung during their childhood. This part of the song is in the voice of Sadahana Sargam.
Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
Just now I received a phone call and looking at the number I half guessed who it could be. and indeed it was our own Khyati Bhatt. She was wondering why I had not discussed any Dilip Kumar song on this occasion. I told her my “problem”. We talked some more and she told me that now she was equipped with all the volumes of HFGK, thanks to Sudhir ji, who during his US visit had visited her. It is always a pleasur talking to her, and I realised after the talk that we covered lots and losts of topics during our conversation.
So here is this song from “Saudaagar” (1991) on the occasion of Dilip Kumar’s birthday. We in this blog wish Dilip Saab a very happy birthday and wish him a long and healthy life ahead.

hi atul
actually all through yesterday i was wondering what dilip kumar song to send you to celebrate his birthday. and as u rightly said i saw that we have covered almost all songs. then i zeroed in on this song and “ILU ILU” from the same movie. then i saw that ILU IlU was already there potsed 2 in 2010. and a my son had also commented on it. now this is also one song which he learnt before he learnt Hindi. as he has said in the other comment those days we were staying in Tamil Nadu. and i got to see this movie only much later on one of my many Mumbai visits on VCR i think.
so thank you very much for this song which sent me into flashback mode. and to think that this song is also in vintage category as it is 22 years old. in fact this morning ti was seeing and listening to songs on “MASTI” channel (seems to be a fairly new channel which has limited reach as it is available only on few “chhatri tv” services as of now) which was playing songs of Baazigar, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar etc and i felt my god these are also 20 year olds. time really has flown.
A belated Happy birthday to you Dilip

Atul ji,
It’s always a pleasure to talk to you. 🙂 And yes, I am very thankful to Sudhir ji for bringing these five “EPICS” for me. Since he was here for a short time and my hubby’s weekend schedule was tight, we could not meet. 😦 Sudhir ji sent it using the postal service.
While inquiring about the payment options, I had a good conversation with Shri Har Mandir Singh ji regarding his future project/s and then Sudhirji gave me more info about these tasks. I don’t have enough words to express my gratitude to Shri Har Mandir Singh ji for the monumental work he has done to make these HFGK.
