I first heard this private song of Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh, in the film ‘Hero’ (1983). In a scene in the film Meenakshi Sheshadri is seen moping around and listening to this song on a cassette player. Just a few lines are heard before the scene continues on, but later on we got to hear the whole song in a cassette of this duo’s ghazals. I do not remember the name of the collection. It may have been ‘classic collection’ .

This is the last song from the film Ajanabee. This is one of the lesser known songs from this movie. From its sound it hardly seems to be from Pancham except at times during the interludes. A common situation in Indian films for songs is where the lovers reach a village or a tribal camp on one of their rendezvous. Once there, they are persuaded by the locals to participate in their dance and song item. Sometimes the pair starts imagining themselves in the situation of the leading pair singing and dancing.

This is one of my favourite songs from a film I like very much-Funtoosh-1956.
When this film was being advertised, there was quite a curiosity about the meaning of the word FANTOOSH. We had never heard this word- especially in the Non-Hindi belt- and no one knew what it meant. In those days, there was no Internet to find out. I was in college and we used to discuss about this word, advocating our guesses.

“Khamosh Nigaahen”(1946) is as obscure a movie as any. Hardly any information is available about this movie. Some vague information available about this movie suggest that it was produced by Roop K Shorey and directed by Moti B Gidwani. This movie had Pran, Manorama, Al Nasir, Subhashini, Zahoor Shah etc in it.

‘Dillagi’ (1978) is a comedy movie, with the story of college lecturers and students. It is written and directed by Basu Chatterjee. Reading its reviews at imdb website is indicating it must be hilarious somewhat on the lines of ‘Chupke Chupke’. Now that is one movie I have seen.
