While at school, he was nicknamed ‘Matinee Show’ by his classmates. And here is why. One or more times a week, he would play truant from his home. Climbing down from his first floor room, after he had been sent to bed, and the rest of the family was asleep or getting ready to sleep. He would make a beeline to a nearby cinema theatre, and watch the night shows of the films then currently showing. Sometimes it would also be films from Hollywood. The next day at school, he regaled his classmates with the stories of the films he saw. And not just simply the stories, he would play act some of the scenes to the delight of his friends. And so they nicknamed him ‘Matinee Show’.
This young boy went on to become one of leading producer-director in the Hindi film industry.

A small child’s memory is so retentive, just like a sponge. I am sure other friends and listeners who lived by the music broadcast on the radio, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, would surely remember this fabulous Bhojpuri song. It is one of those unforgettable memories that will continue to play in the minds forever. It is just the way that Rafi Sb has sung this, makes it so endearing. The feeling is almost as if someone is tickling.

“Ghar Ghar Ki Baat”(1959) was produced by Ramaniklal Shah and directed by Ravindra Dave. The movie had Durga Khote, Minoo Mumtaz, Azra, Suresh, Mahendra Kumar, Jamal, Asit Sen, Indira, Gulab Bai, Krishnakant, Krishna Kumari, Baby Shobha, Nadir, Burhaan, Pal Sharma, Deepak etc in it.

Raja, one of the regulars of this blog needs no introduction. An enthusiastic blogger, who recently organised a get together of the regulars of this blog at his residence in Bangalore is a great fan of public tarnsport and he misses no opportunity on availing public transport. He fondly remembers his stay in New Delhi three decades ago when there used to be double decker buses in Delhi. Raja loved to ride on the upper deck and would love the feeling of being on top of the world.

“Sandesh”(1952) was directed by Bal Gajbar for Sandesh Pictures, Bombay. The movie had Durga Khote, Umesh Sharma, Lalita Pawar, Kumud Lele, Meenaxi, Arvind, Nana palsikar, Neeru, Vikas, Madan, Priyadarshi, Dwarkanath, Tilak Sharma etc in it.
Four songs from this movie have been discused in the past.

Sometimes in happens in nature. When particular facility is absent, the nature makes up for it by bestowing extra capabilities in other facilities. No other example is more eminent and more gifted in the Indian film industry, than KC Dey – an artist who lost his eyesight completely, just as he entered his teen years. And this apparent handicap was compensated by nature, by gifting the young Krishna Chandra with exceptional memory, an extraordinary understanding of the finer nuances of music, and a brilliant creativity that enabled him to be an outstanding artist in ways more than one.
Remembering the legendary KC Dey on the anniversary of his passing away (28th November).

“Nai Imaarat”(1981) though a recent movie by the standards of this blog is an obscure movie. Even I have not heard of this movie though I was into watching Hindi movies with a vengeance at that time.
