But the fact is one can not talk about the 50’s music without mentioning C Ramchandra !

JHUMKE (1946), produced under the banner of Chitra Productions was directed by J K Nanda. The main star cast comprised of Akhtar, Gajanan Jagirdar, Satish, Lalita Pawar and G N Bhat. The story of the film was written by Saadat Hasan Manto. I could not get much information about the film. Even the information on the the star cast of the film was sketchy. Luckily, I found a review of the film in one of the issues of ‘Filmindia’ of 1946. A shortened version of the review is set out below:

Today (16th October 2016) is the birth anniversary of Chitragupt, yesteryear music composer.
It would not be an exaggeration to say that Chitragupt is one of the most under-rated composers of the Hindi film industry. When you think of composers of the golden era of Hindi music, the names that come readily to mind are Naushad, SD Burman, Shankar Jaikishen, OP Nayyar, C. Ramachandra, Roshan, Salil Chaudhary, Hemant Kumar , Madan Mohan etc. Maybe even Ravi.

Today (16 october 2016) is the birthday of Hema Malini, MP from Mathura.
But we will not go into her political career here. That is not of any particular interest to this blog. What we are interested in here is music and the film industry – and that is what we will focus on.

Hullo to all in Atuldom
What is special today (16 october 2016)? It is the birthday of Hema-Dream Girl- Malini. She is still a dream to look at.
I had been to this show last month here in Bangalore where she was in chat with Kabir Bedi. (I had mentioned this in the post on Dev Anand’s birth anniversary.) It made my hair stand on end (as they say in Hindi- rongte khade ho gaye!)to see my favourite, since I was a child, at such close proximity. I felt like a kid once again. They played a clip from “Seeta aur Geeta”, the one where Manorama goes to the police station with Satyen Kappu to coax a very naughty Geeta to go home with them. The scene with the dialogue-“neeche aa beti.” To which Geeta replies: “oopar aa moti”. My mother used to tell me that as a child I had caught this dialogue and kept repeating it from the time we stepped out of the theatre after seeing the movie.
