The blog completes 14 years of its existence today (19 july 2008-19 july 2022).
Blog Day : |
5114 | Post No. : | 17061 |
19 July is a special day for the blog. It was on this day in 2008 that the blog went online with its first post, namely Mile na phool to kaanton se dosti kar li . That was the only post of the day, befitting the name of the blog “Atul Song A Day”. Discussing one song daily was the original idea and the blog stuck to it for 40 days. after that, the blog began to cover more than one song daily. It became “Atul Many Songs A Day”. On some occasions, as many as 12 and even 13 songs were covered in one day. Some exasperated subscribers of the blog complained that they were song lovers, but not that hardcore song lovers that they could handle one song notification in their e mail almost every hour of the day. 🙂
Acronym of the Blog name is ASAD. Depending on the places where I was based during the last 14 years, the blog could be described as ASAD Jabalpuri, ASAD Nagpuri, ASAD Bilaspuri, Asad Barelvi (or ASAD Izatnagri) and ASAD Gorakhpuri. These do not sound right-do I hear some people say that ? Now the blog is finally ASAD Bhopali. 🙂 That sounds right. 🙂 After being posted in different places in different parts of India, I retired from service last june and settled at Bhopal. So the blog from now onwards is likely to be permanently ASAD Bhopali. 🙂
ASAD by the way stands for “Lion” in Arabic. Mind you, Lion, not Tiger. Another set of “Lion” are in news these days namely the lions of Sarnath. 🙂
19 July 2008 was a saturday and unknowingly, it was on this day that the month of Saawan began. That was quite befitting and fortuitous, seeing that “Saawan” is musicaly a very important season for Hindi movie songs. This season has inspired a very large number of songs in Hindi movies.
The blog, after being a song a day blog for the first 40 days of its existence began to cover lots and lots of songs, touching its pinnacle in 2012 when 2071 songs were covered at an average of 5.66 songs every day. But we have seen decline in blog strike rate since then. Only 547 song posts appeared in 2019, at an average of just 1.5 songs a day.
Posts appear in the blog almost every day, almost without fail. Today (19 July 2018) is the 5114th day for the blog. 223 out of these 5114 days (4.3%) have been DOT days (viz days when no posts appeared). The last DOT day for the blog was on 25 december 2019 (4177th day of the blog). So the blog is at present seing a long unbroken streak of 937 days when at least one song is being covered in the blog everyday.
Consistency of effort has seen the blog clock its 17000th song recently (on 12 June 2022). With time, the blog has added new dimensions to it. From a one man show, it became an online collaboration of limkeminded music lovers coming from various parts of the country, and some coming from abroad as well. It is very heartening to note that our core group of contributors reflect the unity in diversity that India reprsents. And quite remarkably, the two genders are represented almost equally.
The blog has become a very important part in the lives of many in ways that we are often unaware. For instance, there was this heartwarming post by a lady who mentioned that she played the song Jyoti kalash chhalke(Bhaabhi ki choodiyaan)(1961) every morning for herself as well as her young granddaughter. On several occasions, we have had comments from people who discovered some songs in the blog many decades after they had last heard the song. We also had comments in the blog from relatives of artists who have contributed in the fields of HFM. Our regulars too have had relatives who had contributed in this field.
The blog has helped us connect with each other online as well as offline. Regulars of this blog have had many get togethers as well as one on one meetings over the years. Personally I had the good fortune to meet a few of our regulars. These meetings were extremely memorable experiences that I cherish to this date. Some of these meetings have been covered in articles appearing in the blog. Other regulars have done the same.
In the articles that we have written, we have covered lots and lots of topics, some of them not even related to music, but they are topics of common interest to most of us. For instance, we have discussed economy, sports, unsung heroes of India, pets, history, geography etc in the blog.
We can go on and on, but let us stop here and get back to our “main” issue of interest, namely music. On this happy occasion, when the blog has completed 14 years, we already had some upbeat songs in the blog. The song under discussion is one that is bound to cheer the audience up even more.
This song is from “Yaaraana”(1981). “Yaaraana”(1981) was produced by H A Nadiadwala and directed by Rakesh Kumar. The movie had Amitabh Bachchan, Neetu Singh, Tanuja, Amjad Khan, Kader Khan, Aruna Irani, Jeevan, Ranjeet, Bharat Bhushan, Viju Khote, Lalita Pawar, Ram Sethi etc in it.
The movie had eight songs in it (including two multiple version songs). Six of these songs (including two multiple version songs) have been covered so far.
Here is this song from “Yaaraana”(1981). This song is sung by Kishore Kumar and chorus. Anjaan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Rajesh Roshan.
This song is a stage dance song, a Disco dance song in fact, that was the flavour of those days. This is one of few songs from that era, which has stood the test of time and continues to remain popular to this day.
As part of Blog celebration, here is this great song from “Yaaraana”(1981) that is guaranteed to make the day of the music lovers.
I take this opportunity to thank one and all whose continued support and encouragement is the perpetual source of energy that is driving this musical bandwagon on and on. Hoping to reach many more musical destinations and milestones in the times to come.
Song-Hey saara zamaana haseenon ka deewaana (Yaaraana)(1981) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Anjaan, MD-Rajesh Roshan
Lyrics
Hey
hey ae ae
hey ae ae
saara zamaana
saara zamaana
haseenon kaa deevaana
hasino kaa deevaana
zamaana kahe phir kyun
zamaana kahe phir kyun
bura hai dil lagaana
bura hai dil lagaana
hey saara zamaana
saara zamaana
haseenon kaa deevaana
haseenon kaa deewaana
zamaana kahe phir kyun
zamaana kahe phir kyun
bura hai dil lagaana
bura hai dil lagaana
hey saara zamaana
hey ae ae
yeh kaun keh raha hai
tu aaj pyaar kar le
jo kabhi bhi khatm naa ho
woh aitbaar kar le
yeh kaun keh raha hai
tu aaj pyaar kar le
jo kabhi bhi khatm naa ho
woh aitbaar kar le
maan le maan le meri baat
aaa
saara zamaana
saara zamaana
haseenon kaa deevaana
haseenon kaa deevaana
zamaana kahe phir kyun
zamaana kahe phir kyun
bura hai dil lagaana
bura hai dil lagaana
hey saara zamaana
aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
jab husn hi nahin toh
duniya mein kya kashish hai
dil dil vahi hai jismein
kahin pyaar ki khalish hai
jab husn hi nahin toh
duniya mein kya kashish hai
dil dil vahi hai jismein
kahin pyaar ki khalish hai
maan le maan le meri baat
meri baat
hey saara zamaana
saara zamaana
haseenon kaa deevaana
haseenon kaa deevaana
zamaana kahe phir kyun
zamaana kahe phir kyun
bura hai dil lagaana
bura hai dil lagaana
hey saara zamaana
saara zamaana
haseenon kaa deevaana
zamaana kahe phir kyun
zamaana kahe phir kyun
bura hai dil lagaana
la la la la la
la la la la la
la la la la la
la la la la la
saara zamaana aa aa aa
