(A tribute to Shamshad Begam – Shamshad Begam sings for Jr. Mehmood)
In this post I am presenting a song from the ‘1971’ movie ‘Ustaad Pedro’.
This film was passed by the censor board on 28.09.1971.
It was directed by Chand for ‘Time-Life Films, Bombay’.
‘Ustaad Pedro’ had Sheikh Mukhtar, Meena Rai, Jeevan, Padma Khanna, Asha Nadkarni, Kundan, Raka, Shyam Kumar, Helen, Junior Mehmood, Master Dingoo, Sadik, Hamid, Kaku, Fazlu, Bihari, B.A. Bagi and new face Anil Dutt.
Music for this film was composed by C.Arjun and lyrics were written by Asad Bhopali.
‘Ustaad Pedro-1971’ has six songs and this movie made its debut on the blog on 31.07.2015 with its song ‘chhaayi ghataa baaghon mein mor boley’.
Today we present the second song from this movie. It is sung by Shamshad Begam. Actor Jeevan too utters a few dialogues in this song.
Actor Junior Mehmood is lip syncing in the voice of Shamshad Begam. S I have considered this post under the series ‘Superstar Child Artist – Junior Mehmood’ where I had earlier presented songs sung by various singers for Junior Mehmood.
I guess that today’s song must be the only instance when Shamshad Begam had given her voice for Junior Mehmood.
Today 23rd April’2023 is the tenth ‘remembrance anniversary’ of the legendary singer Shamshad Begam.
She was born on 14th April’1919 and she passed away on 23rd April’2023.
As a tribute to her today, let us enjoy this song from the movie ‘Ustaad Pedro-1971’. Incidentally her voice also appears in a couple of songs in the movie with the same title released in ‘1951’.
Today’s song is a ‘parody song’. It includes parodies of some iconic songs in the Hindi Film Music. Readers will be able to guess all these songs easily.
Other than Jeevan and Junior Mehmood we can also see Meena Rai and Kundan in the picturisation of this song. (The video of this song is available, but it is not very clear).
