Kamsune/Unsune songs of Asha Bhosle – 78

The camaraderie and apnapan amongst the Atulites (as we contributors of song posts like to call ourselves) really makes me feel at home. It can be a simple thing as a Good Morning or Good Evening messages or even Birthday Wishes on the WhatsApp group or someone posting articles on old movies, songs or even the performers, or even a healthy discussion on any topic except religion and politics, one really feels comfortable and wanted. The group members also suggest songs for posting on the blog. Like this time I have received (upon my request) three rare/rarely heard songs of Asha Bhosle for my current series from a very knowledgeable and experienced friend, Raja Swaminathan Ji. I will be posting his suggestions one at a time.

I would like to Thank Raja Ji for suggesting these songs. So Raja Ji, this one is for you!!!

The first song which I am presenting is a rare/rarely heard song of Asha Bhosle “Babu Babu Dil Pe Nahi Kabu” from “Do Aankhein” (1974), written by Verma Malik and composed by Hansraj Behl.

Today’s song is the last and final song from the film Ratnavali-1945.

The film was made by Amar Pictures, Bombay, owned by Chimanlal Desai, who was the owner of Sagar Movietone earlier. The films made by this company were generally directed by Virendra Desai, his son. The life story of Virendra Desai was very bad. While he was at the peak of his career, with a wife and 2 children, he fell in love with his Heroine – Nalini Jaywant, who was 15 years younger to him. After completing the film Adab Arz-1943, both of them eloped to Calcutta and got married there.

In this short write-up, I present the last song, ‘aaya hoon gharbaar chhod main ban ne filmi star’ to be covered on the Blog from an obscure film, ‘Bahke Kadam’ (1971). The song is written by Dharmesh Dutt which is set to music by Usha Khanna. The film was produced and directed by Dharmesh Dutt who also acted in the film and wrote the songs. The cast included Agha, Aprajita, Dharmesh Dutt, Madan Puri, Jagirdar, Sundar, Mridula, Sulochana, Kanu Roy etc. This appears to be the only film of Dharmesh Dutt as a producer, director, actor and song writer. The VCD/DVD of the film is not available on any video sharing platform.

The song under discussion is rendered by Mohammed Rafi. Since video clip of the song is not available, I can only make a guess based on the lyrics that the song may have been picturised on Agha. Two features of this song are that in the last stanza, suddenly the mukhda part of the song, ‘dil dekhe dekho’ gets incorporated. Incidentally, the old song was also rendered by Mohammed Rafi and set to music by Usha Khanna.

#the Decade of Sixties – 1961 – 1970 #
———————————————————————

The song in this post is from an unreleased movie ‘Rani Chandravati-1960s’. One song from this movie has been presented on the blog earlier by our Shree Sudhir jee.

Not much information about this movie is available in Geet Kosh Vol-IV (1961-1970) where this movie is mentioned under the section of Un-Released movies. Geet Kosh lists six songs leaving space for the possibility that more songs might have been recorded for this movie. The singer’s names for all the six songs have been mentioned. And they include Suman Kalyanpur and Subir Sen; with Suman Kalyanpur having three solos and one solo by Subir Sen. Music for this movie was composed by S.N. Tripathi. Out of the six songs in the movie two have been identified as penned by lyricist B.D. Mishra.

Today’s song is the last and the final song from the film Sunehre Din-1949. The film made by Jagat Pictures was directed by Satish Nigam and the music was by Gyan Dutt. The cast of the film included Rehana, Raj Kapoor, Nigar Sultana, Haroon, Heera Sawant, Ramesh Sinha and others.

The songs of this film were quite enchanting and a few of them became very popular. Especially the solo song “Baharon ne jise chheda” by Mukesh and the duet “Maine dekhi jag ki reet ” by Mukesh and Shamshad Begum are heard even today by song lovers – which includes me too ! For the film’s 10 songs, Gyan Dutt had used 8 singers like Geeta Roy, Shamshad Begum, Sulochana Kadam, Kalyani, Mukesh, Khan Mastana, Durrani and Surinder Kaur. Today’s song is by Surinder Kaur.
