My 200th post

So, with this post I complete 200 song posts on Atul Song A Day blogpost. This activity gives me immense pleasure at this point in life where one tends to take things little lightly. The first 50 posts were posted in roughly 8-10 years time, but the rest of them have been posted in the last 4-5 years. The first 8-10 years period was the time when I worked full time and would work till late almost everyday. Then, during the weekend it was completely family time. So to find time in such a busy schedule was very difficult. Plus, I had 4-5 surgeries on my feet, specifically from 2017 onwards.

But the last few years have been a bit easier in that I have stopped working full time and have taken a part time position which is located remotely and suits my timing and lifestyle. Therefore, the pace of writing posts has increased.

The 100th song I posted was sung by the legend Lata Mangeshkar. So my 200th song is also sung by another legend – Kishore Kumar.

Today’s song is a beautifully sung by Kishore Kumar – “Haath Mein Jaam Na Loon” is from “Bandie” (1978). It is written by Indeevar and composed by Shyamal Mitra.

“Bandie” (1978) was produced by F C Mehra and directed by Alo Sarkar for Eagle Films production. The movie had Uttam Kumar, Sulakshana Pandit,Bindu, Prema Narayan, Amjad Khan, Utpal Dutt, Tarun Ghosh, Master Bittoo, Manik Dutt, Helen, Iftekhar, Satyen Kappoo, Padma Khanna, Amarnath Mukherjee, Indrani Mukherjee, Asit Sen, Madan Puri, Amrish Puri, Nandita Thakur, Prem Lala, Master Raju, Shivraj, Chandrima Bhaduri, Manek Chaudhuri etc in it.

On screen we see Uttam Kumar lip syncing and performing the song while Bindu and Amjad Khan watch.

The song sounds very similar to two songs from the composer’s earlier movie “Amanush” (1976). The songs I am referring to are “Na Poocho Koi Hamey” and “Gham Ki Dawa Toh Pyar Hai”. Please check out the songs.

Song-Haathh mein jaam na loon (Bandie)(1978) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyricist-Indeewar, MD-Shyamal Mitra

Lyrics:

hmm
haath mein jaam na loon
jaam ka naam na loon
roop amrit jo miley
zehar se kaam na loon
haath mein jaam na loon
jaam ka naam na loon
roop amrit jo miley
zehar se kaam na loon
haath mein jaam na loon

kisee paayal kee sadaa
kisee aanchal kee hawa
zinda rakhhe hai mujhe
apsaraaon kee ada
kisee paayal kee sadaa
kisee aanchal kee hawa
zinda rakkhe hai mujhe
apsaraaon kee ada
na hon gulfam agar
jeene ka naam na loon
roop amrit jo miley
zehar se kaam na loon
haath mein jaam na loon

jo khuda poochhe mujhe
arre kya hai darkaar tujhe
jo khuda poochhe mujhe
kya hai darkaar tujhe
maangoon bas husn ka de
yoon hee deedar mujhe
jo khuda poochhe mujhe
arre kya hai darkaar tujhe
jo khuda poochhe mujhe
kya hai darkaar tujhe
maangoon bas husn ka de
yoon hee deedar mujhe
main to saaqee ke siwa
koi inaam na loon
roop amrit jo miley
zehar se kaam na loon
haath mein jaam na loon

hahahahaha
takht aur taaj sabhee
arre lagte hain jhoothh mujhe
takht aur taaj sabhee
lagte hain jhoothh mujhe
oonche mehlon kee chamak
lagtee hai loot mujhe
takht aur taaj sabhee
lagte hain jhoothh mujhe
oonche mehlon kee chamak
lagtee hai loot mujhe
haseen pehlu jo miley
kahin aaraam na loon
roop amrit jo miley
zehar se kaam na loon
haathh mein jaam na loon
jaam ka naam na loon
roop amrit jo miley
zehar se kaam na loon
haath mein jaam

Congratulations on your 200th post Satyajitji!
Here is to the more to come.
I always enjoy the songs you contribute. I had not heard teh song above and was thinking how Lata would sing the cabaret song, but she did it fabulously without breaking her mold. It is also amazing to see how she manages to sing the ou ou ou in the Arabic way as required. This reminds me of her other Arabic style song Lailo shabaab aayee jhoom jhoom ke (Do Phool).

Thank you for your contributions.
