Today 3rd July 2026 is the 75th Birthday of Singer Amit Kumar(DoB 3rd July 1952).
On this occasion I am presenting a lesser heard song from the movie ‘Romance-1983’.
‘Romance-1983’ was produced and directed by Ramanand Sagar for his home productions ‘Sagar Art Enterprises, Bombay’. This movie was passed by Censor Board 12.10.1983. The cast of this movie included Shammi Kapoor, Kumar Gaurav, Poonam Dhillon, with Saeed Jaffrey, Helena Luke, Sushma Seth, Prema Narayan, and Tom Alter. They were supported by Viju Khote, Jugnu, Manmauji, Samrat Kapoor, Dr. Madan Kataria, Randhawa, Jawahar Bhan, Chandan, Yogee, Jitu Vyas, and Moolchand. This movie introduced Christopher, Lilliput, and Jillian. Raj Babbar, Ranjeeta and Ram Sethi make friendly appearance in this movie.
‘Romance-1983’ was an Enlish language title, like the titles of his earlier movies such as ‘Love Story-1981’, ‘Star-1982’, and ‘Lovers-1983’.
I have never watched this movie. This movie is described on internet as a ‘good musical-entertaining –love story of teenage lovers of jet-age, with usual twists and turns before they finally are able to unite forever’. Viewers who watched this movie during Covid lockdown have described this movie as a nice movie like ‘DDLJ’ and some went on to the extent of suggesting that DDLJ might have been inspired from this movie. 😊 I have not watched either of these movies except a short-scene from ‘DDLJ’.
Story, Screenplay and dialogues for this movie ‘Romance-1983’ were written by Mirza Brothers. Editing of this movie was done by Subhash Sehgal.
‘Romance-1983’ has five songs written by Anand Bakshi and composed by R.D. Burman. Lata Mangeshkar, Amit Kumar, Mahendra Kapoor and R.D. Burman were the playback singers for this movie. Two songs from this movie have been posted on the blog. Today’s song is the third song from this movie and it is a solo song sung by Amit Kumar. This song is picturised as a sensuous song on Kumar Gaurav and the beautiful Poonam Dhillon. This song situation is akin to that of the song “roop tera mastaana pyaar mera deewaana bhool koi humse na ho jaaye ” from “Aradhana”(1969).
Let us now enjoy this song … and wish Amit Kumar a very happy birthday today and a healthy, and peaceful life ahead … thanking him for all the pleasant memories and joy that we all have got by listening to his songs from Hindi movies. To that list I will add his songs of Bangla movies as well.
