Mohammed Rafi – Tribute on 46th Death Anniversary

This beautiful composition by Jaidev, was waiting ignored all this while. This blog now has more than 3500 songs by Rafi Sahab, and still gems are discovered every day.
Over the last few months, I have visited the blog intermittently, trying to keep up with the happenings. But it is not the same without my lap-top which is out of order. Lots of data about songs not posted is stored in it, and now I am feeling lost without it. Luckily, I chanced upon this song link on youtube. I have heard it before, and it is not posted, so 90% chances of link already saved in some file with songs to be posted.
This film “Bhaavna” is from 1972 and music is composed by Jaidev. The melody of “Abhi Na Jaao Chhod Kar” is ever fresh in the mind of the fans. Naqsh Lyallpuri is the poet. This is only Rafi song in this film, 2 songs are posted in the blog.
Recently I had a chat with another Rafi fan :
He:: Good morning ! I was thinking. In a few years we will run out songs to choose from. So why not have a series like you did the A to Z series where we revisit the songs? So they need not be songs not yet appeared on the blog. So I was thinking for Rafi Saab you could have a write up of his songs being with you from your birth till you pass away and after. That will be a lovely single post with all the songs or make it a series. Just thinking aloud.. what do you think?
Me: Good morning. Huge mammoth task. ☺️
He: That only you can do 😀 How’s the idea though? 😀
Me: I think Atul ji and Sathyajit Rajurkar are better equipped, with experience for this kind of thing. They did extensive year wise series for Lata and Asha (different actors). So why not for Rafi? I am a Rafi fan, but tell me who isn’t? Point to be noted. 😎
He: We are fans. You are his AC 😀
Me: What s that?
He: Fan and air conditioning 😀 Way above a fan 😀
Me: No no. All have same degree of awe and admiration for Rafi Sb, some realize it and express it openly like me, others are more restrained. SATYAJIT is the one degree above me. He is the one, who compiled the excel sheet of Rafi Sb’s songs.
He: You are very knowledgable and have immense love for his talent. And when you write posts about him it shows
Me: Rafi Sahab is the king among the gems of this Earth. Musically speaking. Let anyone deny it and expose their ignorance and inanity.
He: I was telling a friend the other day.. If I was isolated on an island and I could only listen to one artist, without doubt it would be Rafi Sb
I truly feel that it is a mammoth task of doing a series of all Rafi songs, like the year wise series done by Atul ji for Lata Mangeshkar. I don’t know if he is updating the Lata songs posted in the blog after the series was done. With all that year wise data in excel sheet, it would be one more task to keep up.
Apart from the experience, another advantage Atul ji would have is the excel sheet of all songs posted in the blog that he maintains. In that sheet if the information about the year of the film is also available in a column (which I expect, it must be), sorting the year-wise data of songs posted will be available (3500+). Then in that year-wise list one can add the songs not posted yet (1000+) then Viola….. you have it. The Excel sheet of all Rafi song is available with some people in the rough form. The final /corrected list is with Satyajit Rajurkar ji, I believe.
It looks like a good idea if both Atul ji and Satyajit ji collaborate in this project.
This idea has been put in my mind like a seed now. So it would be a great to see it grow into a tree. All 37 years from 1944 to 1980/1987. From the early period some Punjabi films songs are not yet posted. I will also help in anyway I can. I am sure Sudhir Sir can help with the Punjabi songs.
Just like, I need his help to write the lyrics of the Punjabi version, which is a little different in pace and has additional stanza. I am talking about the song from Bhawna (1972) which is todays post.

So here we are 3500+ song in the blog, with more than 1000 to find and cherish. Cherish we all do, just listen to this rendition, which grows on you like a well meaning friend, yet flowing as a lazy river. Since I got the lyrics of hindi version 3 days ago, I am constantly humming it. Out of the blue, during lunch today I remembered the Marathi song “Haa Chhand Jivalaa Laavi Pise”(also not posted).
I will spend the day with that 46 year old memory of the fateful day.

nahm ji.. tussi great ho.. thank you for the lovely post and for such a wonderful Rafi number i never heard before.
I remember on one of your old posts i had commented that you are like a jeweller and have the art of finding hidden gems. You are definitely Rafi saab’s AC (not just a fan).
Before i saw who the lyricist for the song was, i had a feeling it was Sahir.
As for the mammoth project.. i still think if it is doable.. and it would only be possible with the likes of you, Sudhir Ji, Raja Ji and Satyajit ji. And once you get it done, it would be like no other :).

Please dont attach any greatness to me, I am just a humble student.
There is still the great sea of songs out there, anyone can dive and come up with gems. Be it Rafi Sahab’s or others.
The project, once it is done, it will be like the one done with Lata’s songs, only less posts for lesser years.

Apropos the Rafi project.
Yours truly has already initiated it – on 2nd March earlier this year, as the series title – ‘Mohd Rafi – A Journey Divine’. I posted the first song “Dupatta Mora Aaj Hi Rang Dijo“, covering the years 1944-46.
And then, a gap that intervenes mostly very busy or very lazy authors. 😉
I plan to get back to it shortly. And Nahm jis’s statement in this post might well be the impetus I needed. Next episode will cover 1947. I shall put it up in the coming week, and try to maintain a quick pace on this series.

Good to hear this Sudhir ji.. I was also asking Atul ji.. there does not seem to be an easy way to access all the series of articles we have on the blog. Yes, like Atul ji mentioned, some of them are mentioned in the right as links, but a dedicated page for all these series with the links like we have for Movie Wise page would be great.
