Alphabetical list of actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice- Part X

(Actresses whose name begin with the letter J)

In the first nine episodes of the series, we listed actresses whose names begin with the first nine letters of the alphabet and who had lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. They we went on to cover a song that was lip synced by another acresses whose name began with the same letter and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog.

We managed to find “new” actresses (whose name begin with the first nine letters of the alphabet) lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice for the first time in the blog. They were Anju Mahendru, Bhanupriya,Chandrakala,Divya Bharati, Ekta,Farheen,Gulnar Irani,Harsha Mehra and Isha Koppikar.

The next letter of the alphabet is J. Unlike the previous few letters of the alphabet, this letter J throws up a good number of actresses who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. In fact some of there actresses can even create same name confusion among movie lovers thanks to similarity of their names.

There are as many as 12 actresses in the blog whose name begins with the letter J and who have lip synced in the blog in the voice of Asha Bhonsle. Here are the details of these 12 actresses:-

While searching for “new” actresses was a tall order in case of actresses whose names began with previous few letters, finding a “new” actress whose name began with J and who had not lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog turned out to be a comfortable exercise thanks to our inhouse experts Prakashchandra and Sadanand Kamath jee. Searching independently, both of them came up with several names, including a couple of names of actresss than were common in the list of both.

I had quite a few names to pick from. I have decided on a name that was thee in the list of both of them. This actress is Jasmine. It appears that she has lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in only one movie, namely “Sarkaari Mehmaan”(1978).

“Sarkaari Mehmaan”(1978) was directed by N D Kothari for Mewad films, Bombay. This “social” movie had Vinod Khanna, Jasmine (new discovery), Bindu, Ranjeet, Amjad Khan, Om Shivpuri, Satyen Kappoo, Jagdeep, Indrani Mukherjee, Padma Khanna, Manju Bansal, Manmohan, Shekhar Purohit, Bhagwan, Sundar, Polson, Johny Whisky, Birbal, Radheshyam, Vikas Anand, Manik Chaudhary, Master Bittu, Madhu Apte, Tuntun, Viju Khote, Shakeel, Umesh Khanna etc in it.

The movie had five songs. All these songs were Asha Bhonsle solos.

I had discussed one song from this movie in the past which was picturised on Padma Khanna as a mujradance song.

These days, a Delhi based youtuber is discussing old cinema halls of Delhi in several episodes. Our Sudhir jee is the brain behind this series. In this series, Delhi based movie lovers are sharing their interesting experiences of watching movies in these movie halls three, four, five and even six decades ago. It is such a heart warming experience to find our own experts like Sudhir Jee, Bakshish jee, Javed Hamid jee etc sharing their interesting experiences of old single screen cinema halls. I quite enjoyed following this series.

I too had interesting experiences while watching movies in the cinema halls of Ranchi. While discussing the earlier song of this movie, I had described how I watched this movie without buying its ticket. Here I reproduce what I had written while discussing the earlier song of the movie:

When I used to return back from college in the evening, I came down by walk, which had the added advantage that I came across most movie halls of Ranchi that were located on a single road called Main Road. The newest cinema hall, which also happened to be located closest to my residence was called Sujata Cinema. I found out that while one needed to buy tickets while the movie began, no one checked tickets after half time. So one could wait for the half time when movie watchers came out to buy peanuts, popcorn etc. When they went back inside, their tickets were not checked again. So it was possible to enter the hall in the second half and sit in a vacant seat and watch the second half of the movie. I was able to watch a few flop movies (with very few ticket buyers for them) this way. If my memory is not playing tricks, this movie “Sarkaari Mehmaan”(1978) was one such movie. I entered the movie hall after second half, watched the movie and left the hall after THE END along with other bonafide movie watchers who had the misfortune of buying tickets of this movie.

I watched the movie but did not understand the story line because I had missed the first half. Not that it bothered me much. I could see that the movie was no great shakes.
……

I had forgotten about the movie as soon as I left the hall. I did not even remember any songs even though a couple of songs got played in the second half of the movie.

The song under discussion is the title song of the movie. It is lip synced by Jasmine, the leading lady of the movie, who is addressing Vinod Khanna (playing “Sarkaari Mehmaan” in the movie). Vinod Khanna, and other prisoners are apparently doing their “rigorous” work as prescribed in their sentence pronounced by some court. After their work, whose end coincides with the beginning of this song, the prisoners are taken to the police vans to be taken back to the prison. The song takes place during this time. Policemen escorting the prisoners are comedians like Bhagwan, Birbal etc. The prisoners too are comedians (I can identify Polson) and other small time actors. The prisoners start shaking a leg or two on this song.

Jasmine appears quite young in this picturisation. In fact, some comments on youtube suggest that she was just 11 years old during the picturisation of this song ! Later, the same producer signed her in “Divorce”(1984). Both these movies flopped at the box office. Apparantly, her claim to fame is her lead role in Ramsay Brothers’ horror movie “Veeraana”(1988) which was her third movie and it turned out to be a hit movie. After that Jasmine left the movie world and her whereabouts are not known.

Here is this song from “Sarkaari Mehmaan”(1978). It is penned by Hasrat Jaipuri. Ravindra Jain is the music director. Jasmine makes her debut in the blog with this song.

With the letter J done, next episode will take up an actress with the letter K. The blog has as many as 26 actresses whose names begin with K and who have lip synced in Asha Bhonsle’s voice in the blog. So one can imagine that K is a popular name for a female in India. I already have name of an unrepresented actress ready with me that will be covered in the next episode of this series.

For now, let us enjoy this lesser heard song picturised on a lesser known actress whose name begins with J.

Song-Sun sun re sarkaari mehmaan(Sarkaari Mehmaan)(1978) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyricist-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Ravindra Jain

Lyrics:

ae sarkaari mehmaan
palat
kidhar hai tera dhyaan
udhar naheen
idhar dekh
arre re re
neeche naheen
haan
upar dekh

sun sun re sarkaari mehmaan
o daroga
o sipahiya naadaan
tose milne ko
chalee aayee julmee
tose milne ko
chalee aayee julmee
main to le ke hathhelee pe jaa aan
main to le ke hathhelee pe jaa aan
sun sun re sarkaari mehmaan
o daroga
o sipahiya naadaan
ho daroga baabu

dekha na tujh sa chhail chhabeela
ke maine dekhe kitne log
dekha na tujh sa chhail chhabeela
ke maine dekhe kitne log
kaise kahoon main
baat jiya kee
ke aazoo baazoo kitne log
mere sapnon mein nit aaye jaaye
mere sapnon mein nit aaye jaaye
ik aisa hee baanka jawaan
ik aisa hee baankka jawaan
sun sun re sarkaari mehmaan
o daroga
o sipahiya naadaan
o thhaanedaar

khadee rahoongee peepal ke neeche
ho main to tere waaste ae
khadee rahoongee peepal ke neeche
ho main to tere waaste
tod ke aana
saaree zanjeeren
ha tu bhee dil ke raaste ae
chupke chupke hum mil jaayenge
chupke chupke hum mil jaayenge
aur duniya rahegee anjaan
aur duniya rahegee anjaan
sun sun re sarkaari mehmaan
o daroga
o sipahiya naadaan
tose milne ko
chalee aayee julmee
tose milne ko
chalee aayee julmee
main to le ke hathhelee pe jaa aan
main to le ke hathhelee pe jaa aan
