In this article, I propose to explore the film ‘Mimi’ (2021) which was a remake of a Marathi film, ‘Mala Aai Vhhaychy!’ (2011) [meaning, I want to be a mother]. The film is about surrogacy. The Marathi film was produced by Samruoddhi Porey, a lawyer in Bombay High Court. The story was based on one of the surrogacy cases she handled in the High Court. The film won the National Film Award for the best feature film in Marathi. While the Marathi film was a complete melodrama, ‘Mimi’ (2021) added some situational comedy elements to reduce the impact of melodrama.

‘Apna Apna Aasmaan’ (TV Serial, 1992) was telecast on Doordarshan’s National Channel from December 1992. The main cast of the TV Serial included Girish Karnad, Beena, Shreeram Lagoo, Viplav Malhotra, Lalit Parimoo, Parveen Pandey, Dinesh Khanna, Hemant Mishra, Nandlal Sharma, Usha Suhail, Priya Wadhwa, Rekha Babbal, B Sushma, Kishori Ballal etc. The 13-episode serial was based on a Telugu novel, ‘Kausalya’ by Polapragada Satyanarayana Murthy, with some more characters added in the screenplay to make it a family drama. The TV Serial was produced and directed by Kailash Tuli.

We observe that two movies (out of 7) whose songs were covered on this date ten years ago (on 2 april 2013) have since been YIPPEED. That leaves us with five unYIPPEED movies that re eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today (2 april 2023).
One of the unYIPPEED movies has been taken up under BTYC earlier in the day.
Chronoologically the second oldest unYIPPEED movie of that date was “Milan Ki Raat”(1967). This movie was produced by Makin,Pratima(Protima),Yusuf & Prakash and directed by R Bhattacharya for Musical movies, Bombay. Recently, I watched the film, ‘7½ Phere’ (2005) on one of the video sharing platforms mainly for two reasons – the catchy title of the film and an interesting combination of Juhi Chawla and Irrfan Khan in the lead roles. The short description of the film by the uploader states that a TV channel decides to go for the reality show of a live wedding in Indian family. The task is given to a first time director who selects a joint family in Mumbai for the same. The director gets into some problems with the senior members of the family who deny the live shooting of the family wedding. The director, with maiden project in jeopardy, gets into a deal with a member of a bride’s family to secretly shoot the wedding functions resulting in a chain of hilarious events.

Today (9 march 2023) early morning, the first WhatsApp message I read in my family group was about producer-director-writer-actor Satish Kaushik who breath his last on the way to a hospital in Delhi early morning following a heart attack. His funeral is likely to take place in Mumbai later in the day. Next month, he would have completed 67 years, an age when many actors have rediscovered themselves in film industries. I felt very sorry that one of the few genial faces of the Hindi film industry and an actor who regaled us through his unique style of acting and dialogue delivery was no more with us. For now, only his films will keep his memory live.

Kalpana Lajmi (31/05/1954 – 23/09/2018) was known for making Hindi films with unconventional woman-oriented stories. She started making feature films with ‘Ek Pal’ (1986) for which she was also the producer along with Bhupen Hazarika. This was followed by ‘Rudaali’ (1993), ‘Darmiyaan’ (1997), ‘Daman’ (2001), ‘Kyon’ (2003) and ‘Chingaari’ (2006).
