This is a song from the film Najaria-52. It is a duet by Kishore and an unknown female voice. The song is one of those rare songs when Kishore sang for someone other than himself or Dev Anand in the early 50s. That was the time when Kishore Kumar was trying hard, but composers were not taking him seriously as a singer. Only S D Burman started using him for Dev Anand from the film Baazi-51. Almost all other songs of Kishore were for himself on the screen.

We in this blog celebrate all important musical landmarks that we reach. This writeup was supposed to celebrate a major landmark namely the 500th song of Naushad as a music director in this blog. It turns out that my calculation was long and Naushad had reached his 500 mark a few days ago in a writeup that I erroneously counted as 499th song for him. Nevertheless, I will use this 501th Naushad song as an opportunity to discuss the details of his songs composed during his 64 years long career.

There are certain special words which seem to be favourites of film makers. These are used frequently in the Titles of films that are made. Some of the words I counted are not surprising. The work Ek (or its variations) has the distinction of appearing most frequently in the title of Hindi movies. Some examples for such titles are Ek roz, Ek thi Ladki, Eklavya etc etc. A staggesring 209 number of Hindi movies contain the word “Ek” or its variations !. This is for the period from 1931 to 2012. The next most popular words are Mera/Meri-165 films, Dil- 121 , Pyaar- 108 , Do- 91 , Hum/Ham/Hamara/Hamari – 87, Prem – 68 , Ghar- 51 , Veer – 45 etc etc.

GEMS FROM THE MIGRATORS…song no. 5

So far, I have done 16 series here. This is the 17th series. Writing for a series is not an easy job.It not only requires lot of spade work, but also requires a continuous flow, avoiding a long gap between 2 posts, lest the tempo is lost. When I start a series, I am always in lot of tension till it is completed successfully. Every series is a new beginning for me. In spite of all this (and the ensuing allegations of ” neglect ” from the family ) I enjoy doing this work. There are many Blogs on internet which do posts on theme like ” Cycle songs”, Motor songs” or Sawan songs etc. I have always felt that Atul ji’s Blog is not an ordinary one and it must have real specially made exclusive topics for series I could do these posts, because Atul ji has always helped me with the Lyrics and has encouraged me always. Thanks Atul ji.

BHAJAN MALA – GOLDEN 50s (Pushp-7)
—————————————
One advantage of seeing religious films was that it increased your knowledge of mythology and the Puranas. Though there was a common principle highlighted( Satyamev Jayate or the victory of Good over Bad ), every story’s treatment and content used to be different. With our Holy books overflowing with stories involving all types of Gods, Godesses and Bhakts, film producers must have never fallen short of stories. Famous and well known studios like Bombay Talkies, Sagar, Mohan, Prakash, Prabhat, Wadia or Filmistan stuck to popular and traditional stories like Satyavan Savitri, Bhakta Dhruv, Shri Ram or Shrikrishna. other production companies tried comparatively less known, unknown or even Hybrid stories (Mythological base but treated in filmy style) to make films.
