It is with mixed emotions that I write this post.
No, it’s not quite what you’re thinking. Usually “mixed emotions” involve an element of happiness, tempered with sadness. Like parents sending their son or daughter abroad for higher studies. On one hand, they’re happy for their child’s future, on the other there’s an element of sadness that they will be separated by a considerable amount of distance and time.

THE VIBRANT 40s.(Episode No. 8)
———————————–
This post is coming after a break of almost 10 days or so. It was not a ‘Commercial Break’, but was a ‘Duty break’ ! We like to engage ourselves in the olden times, but the newer generation wants to enjoy Today’s life Today…or even earlier, if possible. Everyone seems to be in a hurry these days. I had to bow down to family pressures and go on a trip, down to KERALA. Of course it did a lot of good to me. Away from the Computer, FB and the Whatsapp, the days were spent in the company of family members, in ” The God’s Own Country”-Kerala. It did refresh me to the extent that after a gap of almost 60 years, I tried swimming again. To my own surprise, I could swim comfortably and the family heaved a sigh of relief ! All of them were unitedly against my determination of swimming with grandchildren ” at THIS age ” !!!. (My swimming Video is posted on my FB page).

It is often said that the language of music is universal. “Music is the universal language of mankind”-said Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
“where word fails, music speaks”- said Hans Christian Anderson. Heinriche Heine also said something similar- “where words leave off music begins”.

chanchal mann, kaahe dharke
ruk ja ruk ja
o zaraa tham jaa

Ah yes, one can sense the feeling. The grand milestone seems just around the corner and we have 9600 on the scoreboard today. And so I caution my heart to not be impatient. The rolling pace continues to be consistent, but somehow it seems that the 10 thousand mark is approaching at a faster velocity. Just another three century milestones away now. Just about 9 more weeks or so to go.

OK, so it is 9500 today. Goodness, the Doppler effect that I discussed, oh just three short weeks ago, seems to be working just as told. The actual pace of posting songs is fairly normal and consistent. And yet, it seems we are speeding up, and will be reaching the magic number, faster than we thought we would get there.

Rare Performances – Things Unique and Unexpected #4
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – —
Poets as singers may not be an uncommon expectation. Poets are known for their singing prowess in mushairas and in kavi sammelans. They are expected to present their verses in ‘tarrannum’. However, not many have ventured into singing in the films. It is quite strange, because they are the one’s who best know the words, their intent, and their meaning. They also have a fair idea about an underlying melody that hides behind the meter and rhyme that they have created. Lyricist DN Madhok was famous for providing a basic ‘dhun’ to the music directors, for every song he wrote. But still, one does not find many singing in the films in their own voice.
