Today’s song is from a ‘C’ grade stunt film Al Hilal aka The judgement of Allah- 1958.

Those readers who keep a track of old films may remember that way back in 1935, Sagar Movietone had produced a film of the same name Al Hilal. It was the first film of Mehboob Khan as a Director and the film had Kumar and Sitara Devi as the lead pair. That film was quite successful and even Baburao Patel of Film India magazine had praised not only the film but also hailed Mehboob Khan as a Diamond for Future.

This Week, That Year – 8
———————————–
07Nov – 13Nov, 2011

OK yes, the tag line is correct, but the date is definitely out of sequence. Sincere apologies for this parallax effect. This is not the week of 7th Nov. This post should have come at least 6 weeks ago. And truly, the post template and lyrics and all the tag stuff was ready then, but the words to compose the post were trapped behind some real and imagined ‘constraints’.

Ah but you will say, why pitch in with the week of 7th Nov now, six weeks later. Well surely, for a special reason. That was a special week, with a very special milestone reached by the blog. On Saturday, the 13th November, 2011, we reached the 5000th post. That day, the blog had been in existence for 1,213 days – exactly 3 years, 3 months and 26 days. And we completed 5,000 posts, at a simple daily average of 4+ songs – day on day.

21st July, 1969 – a tiny me was waiting for the arrival of the school bus, around 6.40 am in the morning, at the end of the lane where we lived, in Karol Bagh area of Delhi. Three, maybe four other friends, going to the same school – executing the normal morning routine, with strap bags on shoulders, waiting to espy the school bus that we all recognized oh so well, to take a turn from a crossing about 200 metres away – to come, and to gobble us up, and to carry us to yet another day at the school. I think, it was too early in life to philosophize about the love-hate relationship with education, school and school teachers. It was still kind of an eager fun to travel in the bus and get to a classroom, and spend time watching teachers do their things on the blackboard, for us. Ah yes, the blackboards back then were actually black, and white chalks were then the standard instrument of communication between the teacher and us.
