It had Sona, Jatin, N.A.Ansari, Nazeer Hussain, Chandrashekhar, Veena, Chand Usmani, Aparna Choudhary, Smita, Lata Arora, Niranjan Mathur, Master Babbu, Baby Neelofar, Champak, Hari Shukla, Jilani, Maqbool, R.S.Chopra, Gani, Uma Dutt, etc. Yusuf Azad, Rasheeda Khatoon, Jagdeep and Mirza M Baig had made special appearaances. Regulars on the blog are aware that I am very fond of Qawwaalees from our Hindi films and I have been presenting them whenever I find an opportunity to do so. Also I try to bring Qawwaalee songs here that are lesser heard or never heard songs, whenever I came across such songs.

Mukesh and his Co-Singers –14
I have covered Mukesh’s songs composed by Sharda in my previous post.
I have also tried to cover many aspects of her career, but a few more details remain. A lot can be written about her association with Shankar and the various gossips and stories. But then, what is also known is that Sharda never revolted or reacted to these. She continued her life and career with whatever she came across. As such, a thought ran through my mind that it is better to stick to facts and statistics rather than the personal lives of artists.
We all have our likes and dislikes. I am not particularly fond of Sharda’s voice. But, then in many of her songs there is this unconventional, distinctive childish texture in her voice. In many songs that she sang this was a welcome change and did manage to capture the attention of music lovers. In an era where heroines were evolving into more mature roles and free expressions, such a voice suited their antics on the screen.

Today’s Kavi Pradeep song is form the movie “Veeraanganaa-1947”. It was directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal for Laxmi Productions, Bombay. This was a movie from the genre of “historical” movies. The cast of this movie included Shobhana Samarth, Prem Adib, Jeewan, Prabha, Badri Prasad, Sankata Prasad, Shanta Patel, Kanta and others. This movie has eight songs as per Geet Kosh-Vol-II (1941-1950). Kavi Pradeep wrote the lyrics for the songs in this movie under the name of Miss Kamal. The singers’ names for all the individual songs are not mentioned against the songs of this movie. Hari Prasanna Das and Manna Dey were the two music directors for this movie. In Geet Kosh four songs are attributed to composer Hari Prasanna Das, so we can guess that the other songs are composed by Manna Dey.
