‘Yaasmeen’, a film from 1955 is well known for some wonderful gems coming from the pen of Jaan Nisaar Akhtar and the music composition by C Ramchandra. The film has ten songs out of which four are already represented on this blog, including the evergreen iconic rendering of “Bechain Nazar Betaab Jigar” by Talat Mehmood, and “Mujh Pe Ilzaam e Bewafaai Hai” by Lata Mangeshkar. Here is the fifth offering from this film – another iconic song that would qualify for the tag ‘how come this song was not posted earlier’.

During my four decades of sojourn with old Hindi films songs, I have come across many admirers of such songs among my friends, office colleagues and also within my family circle. There were categories of admirers in terms of period songs, fans of some singers, lyricists. music directors etc. There was one more category of admirers who outscored other categories in terms of numbers. Members of this group, while being admirers of popular old Hindi film songs of golden era, were by and large ignorant of other details of the songs especially names of music directors and lyricists. I also noted that out of these details, they were least interested in knowing the names of lyricists.

‘Hum hain raahi pyaar ke’ – the phrase reminds me of an iconic song “ham hain raah pyaar ke ham se kuchh naa boliye” from the film NAU DO GYAARAH (1957) and the Amir Khan-Juhi Chawala starrer film HUM HAIN RAAHI PYAAR KE (1993). I was not aware of the fact that there was one more film by the same name until I came across an audio clip of a beautiful song from that film.

“Aas” (1953) is a Goel Cine Corporation movie. It was directed by Devendra Goel. The star cast of this movie included names like Kamini Kaushal, S. K. Prem, Chandabai, Om Prakash, Shekhar, Gulab, Master Ramesh etc.

“Parchhaain”(1952) was a Rajkamal Pictures production. V Shantaram was the director of this movie. Starcast was an all family affair, what with V Shantaram and Jayshree playing the lead roles in this movie. Lalita Pawar, Wasti, G. Nirula, Shams Lucknavi, Saroj, Sandhya, Baran, Nimbalkar etc were the other actors in this movie.

“Saaqi” (1952) is a movie which was produced by Talwar Films and directed by H S Rawail. The starcast of the movie included names like Premnath, Madhubala, Cuckoo, Bipin Gupta, Iftekhar, Gope, Mohana, Randhir, Mumtaz, Uma Dutt etc.

“Prem Patra” (1962) is by now a forgotten movie. This movie was produced and directed by Bimal Roy. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Sadhana, Seema, Sudhir, Rajendranath, Parveen Choudhary, Kanu Roy, Kunte, Keshto Mukherjee, Chand Usmani, Varde, Madhvi, Bela Bose etc in it.
