Today’s song is a rare song from an obscure film – Jeevan Natak-1935.
During the silent film era, there was no sound in the film and hence no dialogues. This was compensated by showing dialogue strips on the screen. Initially scenes and the dialogue srips were shown alternatively i.e. after the actor says something, the next scene was only his dialogue srip. Later on ,however, simultaneously showing of the dialogue strip started. In any case this prevented continuation of the story and importance of the dialogue. This also made the filmmakers make silent films action oriented, rather than using dialogues. 90 % silent films were action/stunt films or costume films.

#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Singer – Manna Dey)
——————————————-———————————
Today’s song is from the ‘1971’ movie ‘Bahke Kadam’.
This movie made its debut on the blog on 07.10.2015 when one of its songs was posted on the blog.
While presenting the first song from this movie, I had mentioned that one other song from this movie was available on YouTube. I had also mentioned that this movie seemed to be an obscure movie of its time.
When I was looking for a song sung by Manna Dey from this movie I discovered that the audio of the remaining two songs have also become available on YouTube now. But, the video of this movie or its songs still seems to be unavailable.

Hullo Atuldom
“Awaargi” (1990) was directed by Mahesh Bhatt, story-screenplay-dialogues were written by Suraj Sanim, and produced by P. Raghunath (who happened to be Hema Malini’s uncle). The movie opens with a message ‘Thanking Hema Malini’. Anu Malik was the music composer with Anand Bakshi writing most of its songs. Playback singers used were Asha Bhonsle, Mohd. Aziz, Lata Mangeshkar, Anuradha Paudwal; the Ghazal Maestro Ghulam Ali sang the melodious “Chamkate Chaand Ko Toota Hua Taara Banaa Dalaa” which was was written by Asad Bhopali. (Recently I saw this, sung by a youngster, on satellite TV, and I was hooked on to it and the songs of the movie itself).

Today’s song is from a “special” film Mujrim Kaun-1966.
I call this a special film, because of an interesting reason. The reason is that this is one of those rare films, where most of the actors, Director, music Director, all 3 lyricists, singers, producer, the banner, the screenplay writer, the dialogue writer and even the financer were all “ONE TIME” members. They had no previous experience earlier and after this film, they did not work in any other film.

#Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (missing movies of 1975- Lyricist Ravindra Jain)

Welcome all to this post which marks my 6th hundredth post on the blog. This year ‘2022’ has been a very good year for me especially in terms of my contributions for the blog. This year I celebrated milestone of ‘five hundredth post’ in the month of ‘April 2022’ and today I reach six hundred posts on the blog. (there is much more to my statistics for the year ‘2020’, ‘2021’ & ‘2022’ , but that is the matter of another post which I would take at appropriate time 🙂 in the future.).

Today’s song is a female-female duet from the film Swami-1941.
1941 was the beginning of a new decade. After the Talkie film’s entry, this was the second decade. There were many changes taking place continuously in the film making and so it was interesting to know how the year 1941 fared. The 30s and the 40s mostly differed in film music and story contents. The new blood composers like Anil Biswas, C Ramchandra, Naushad, Ghulam Haider, K Datta, Hansraj Behl, Bulo C Rani, Gyan Dutt and many more replaced the Parsi, Marathi and Gujarati drama music to more acceptable lilting songs. Many musical films were made and some everlasting songs were composed by these people.

Hullo Atuldom
History of Indian cinema is incomplete without mentioning the influence of Parsi theatre, specially in the initial years of the film industry. When we throw a question to Google about “influence of Parsi theatre on Indian Film Industry” this reply pops up:- “Stylistic elements like declamatory theatrical performances, the progression of narrative through song & dance sequences, melodrama, disguise & plot reversals”. I am sure there are knowledgeable followers of Atuldom who will be able to throw more light on this subject. If I recall, our in-house encyclopaedia Shri Arunkumar Deshmukh, has written about this in a few of his posts.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2012-2022) – Song No. 132
————————————————————————————–
Welcome all to this post under ‘blog ten year challenge 2012-2022’. This post of mine under this series is coming after a long gap. 🙂
I had come across today’s song couple of months back when I heard it on radio and again it got played on radio recently. The song is a distinct composition of a regular music director and music lovers can easily guess the name of the music director if they listen to the song. The music director in this case is Rajesh Roshan.
