Dekho jaadu bhare more nain

The first movie of O P Nayyar as a music director was “Aasmaan” (1952). In this movie he had created songs that were diferent from his music of later movies. In this movie , he used the voices of Geeta Dutt, Raj Kumari and C H Atma.

It has been pointed out to me that this song was missing from this blog. In fact there are so many nice songs that are yet to be posted, and it will take time before I am able to do justice to all these songs. This song “ghareeb jaan ke na tum haman mita dena” from “Chhoomantar” (1956) is one song from this movie that is well known to me for the last thirty years. This song is one of those songs that I had noted down in my diary of 1970s in which I used to note down the songs that I liked those days.

Many people may only be aware of the new “Parineeta”, but in reality, the original and real “Parineeta” is the movie that was based on Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s story and it was picturised in 1953. It was made in Bangla, Hindi, and may be in other languages too.

A female dancer singing and dancing in a club, paying particular attention to the table where the hero is seated was a standard fare in Bollywood movies of 1950s. Geeta Bali, Geeta Dutt and Dev Anand often figured in such songs.

This song “jaane kahaan mera jigar gayaa ji” is a very well known song. One may not be aware of the movie of this song, but everyone is aware of this song.

This song must be one of the very first songs of its genre namely a party/ club song, where a lady sings in a bar/ club to entertain the customers, and one of the customers is the hero.
