Mukesh and his Composers – 39
Coming to the next part of this series, I take up a solo song by Mukesh from the film Parmatma released in 1978. It was directed by Chand and had Shatrughan Sinha, Rekha, Pradeep Kumar, Aruna Irani, Ranjeet, Dev Kumar, Jagdish Raj, Chand Usmani, Helen and others in the cast. The music was by K. Babuji and lyrics by Indeevar.
Again, not much information is available on the music director K. Babuji. It appears Mukesh has sung only one song for him.

Mukesh and his Composers – 37
The name of SN Tripathi evokes fond memories of melody and good music amongst avid HF music lovers. He was a multitalented personality who contributed to composing, singing, acting, storytelling, direction, screenplay writing, filmmaking etc.
Despite contributions in many fields of film making, he is best known as a music director. He gave music to mainly B grade mythological and historical movies, but these movies had A grade songs for us to cherish.

Today, we shall take up the case of a rather unknown music director, Prem Kumar.
He has a solitary unreleased film to his credit. Only two solo songs are available in the voice of Mukesh and Mahendra Kapoor.
The film name is Paisa aur Zindagi which was in the making circa 1973. Not many details are available of any the cast of this film. Myswar has whatever details are available of this unreleased film.

Playback singer and composer Sharda passed away on 14 June 2023. On her Remembrance Day today, I bring this post as a tribute in continuation to the recent two posts wherein Mukesh’s association under her compositions and a co-singer in their duets were covered.
Links to the two posts are provided below for reader’s ready reference.
• Mukesh and his Co-Singers –14
• Mukesh and his Composers – 35
There is nothing much to add from my knowledge to whatever I have already covered in my two aforesaid posts. But then, when I start writing, I keep writing. 😊
So, here we go again.

Mukesh and his Co-Singers –14
I have covered Mukesh’s songs composed by Sharda in my previous post.
I have also tried to cover many aspects of her career, but a few more details remain. A lot can be written about her association with Shankar and the various gossips and stories. But then, what is also known is that Sharda never revolted or reacted to these. She continued her life and career with whatever she came across. As such, a thought ran through my mind that it is better to stick to facts and statistics rather than the personal lives of artists.
We all have our likes and dislikes. I am not particularly fond of Sharda’s voice. But, then in many of her songs there is this unconventional, distinctive childish texture in her voice. In many songs that she sang this was a welcome change and did manage to capture the attention of music lovers. In an era where heroines were evolving into more mature roles and free expressions, such a voice suited their antics on the screen.

Mukesh and his Composers – 35
Who was the first woman music director in Indian films?
Well, to the unversed but having some intertest in HFM, Usha Khanna’s name would crop up in the mind. To the more learned ones, Saraswati Devi would be the answer. To experts, it would be Jaddanbai, the mother of legendary actress Nargis.
However, the credit goes to Ishrat Sultana aka Bibbo, who was the composer of Adl-e-Jahangir released in 1934. Jaddan Bai’s score for Talash-e-Haq was a year later in 1935.

Mukesh and his Composers – 34
Do Badan (1966) song “Raha gardishon mein hardam” was first recorded in the voice of Mukesh for Ghunghat (1960), which belonged to the production house of Gemini Studios.
The producer S. S Vasan felt that the song was not aligning with the flow of the film and he recommended its exclusion.
Six years later, composer Ravi took permission from S. S Vasan and included the song in the film Do Badan, in the voice of Rafi. Of course, the said song as well as all others in Do Badan (1966) did become quite popular. But sadly, the unused Mukesh version is probably lost forever. According to some sources, composer Ravi was said to be in possession of the spool recording of this unused Mukesh song, but unfortunately, it was lost in the Mumbai floods of 2005. Thus, the only place where there is a remote possibility of this song being traced is Gemini Studios, the production house of Ghunghat (1960).

teri aawaaz se rahe bekhabar
hamare dil ki kab ye mazaal hai
Due apologies to Majrooh saab for tweaking his well-known ghazal from Aakhri Daao (1958)
Remembering and celebrating Mohammed Rafi saab on his birth centenary (24 December 1924-31 July 1980).
It is just 44 years since Rafi saab passed away in 1980, but ever since he graced our HFM with his matchless voice, it is as if the voice always existed and will remain us forever.

Mukesh and his Actors – 05
——————————————–
In my previous post, I had let the cat out of the bag by revealing the next actor’s name in this series.
Well, Mukesh has sung some 19-20 odd songs for Shashi Kapoor. The number is seemingly quite less, but that’s the story of Mukesh for most of his contemporary actors for whom he gave playback.
