Third song in the series is also from the 40’s. This is a solo by Geeta Dutt from the film ‘Hamaari Manzil” (1949). This movie is a treasure of wonderful songs. I have sent the lyrics of a few songs from this film, which are in the process of being posted.

When we were studying in school, we had a period once in a week reserved for ‘deeni ta’aleem’. It used to be one of those time-paas periods, where teacher would come or just leave the kids be minded by the class monitors. This was not part of the exams, so it made no difference whether some things were taught or not. This subject was not even graded like the other subjects of ‘Physical Education’ or ‘ home science’ etc.

It has been a while that I made a contribution to the blog. Not that I have been away, but once the momentum is gone, lethargy sets in. Every once in a while one keeps exploring the possibilities of writing a post, for some special song. While I was pondering on where to start again, much has happened here. Firstly, congratulations to Atul ji and fellow contributors are in order for reaching the figure of 9500 songs posted.

‘Leader” is one of the top well known films from the year 1964. The year is crowded with such hit and popular films full of wonderful songs from Jahaan Ara, Haqueeqat, Wo kaun thhi, Shehnaayi, Aap ki Parchhayiyaan, Kashmir Ki kali, Dosti, April Fool Chitralekha, to Ghazal, Qawwali Ki Raat,Dosti, Kohraa & Chitralekha, Saanjh aur Savera, Sangam, Shagoon, Suhaagan, Raajkumar, Ziddi, Sharaabi, Beta Beti etc. I think all will agree this is an inspiring list of films. The year was an especially high point for Madan Mohan with eight releases going by the films already represented in the blog, which is equal to Shankar-Jaikishan’s eight films(songs posted). I think I will concentrate on 1964 for a while, for sending lyrics and writing an occasional post.

In keeping with the festive season and party atmosphere, here is a party song. This is a duet song of Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhonsle, from the film ‘Andaz’ (1971). The lyricist is Hasrat Jaipuri and composers are Shankar-Jaikishan.
The picturization is a Christmas, New year, masquerade, holloween all rolled into one party. If there was a cake visible, it would have been a birthday. In the movie I think it was Christmas party. David is the host and Shammi Kapoor and Hema Malini are singing this song.

This is the last song in the series and I wanted a spectacular song to end the series. Luckily I had zoomed in to this song to feature as the last song of Asha Bhosle in the series, a month ago. For this is one song (among many for sure) I know a lot about and can write a detailed post.

Kajra muhabbat waala ankhiyon mein aisa daala,
Reshmi salwaar kurta jaali kaa,
Sharma ke ye kyun parda nasheen
This is the famous Jodi of female singers known for their duets which are popular. They are the venerable Asha Bhonsle and the inmitable Shamshad Begum. When I chanced upon this duet by them from the movie “Chaubees Ghante” (1958), I thought this would be a good inclusion in the series.

Now we return to Suman Kalyanpur. This is the last song by her in this series. This time looking for solos songs, I found a very good multiple version solo song by Suman Kalyanpur from the film ‘Ek Paheli ’(1971).
