As I had mentioned earlier, the makers of Tarzan films always wanted to include something special in their films to enhance its credibility and acceptibility. In this process they would not stop anywhere, what if the story is senseless and unbelieveable ? They averred that the audience of ” C ” grade films does not come to the Theatres to quench his literary Thirst, but to get ‘paisa vasool’ stories, which satisfy his basic instincts. So no stones are left unturned to bring out that kind of stuff.

This song is from the film ‘Raaz’, the year is 1967. It is a duet by Mohammed Rafi and Krishna Kalle. It is picturized on the hero Rajesh Khanna and heroine Babita. The composer is the duo Kalyanji Anandji and lyricist is Akhtar Romani. There are two unknown or should I say less known persons connected with this song. The female playback singer and the lyricist. I would have identified Krishna Kalle with the song “meri hasraton ki duniyaa” which is a duet with Rafi from the film “Gaal gulaabi nain sharaabi”, but that was before I heard this duet song from ‘Raaz’. This must be the high point and defining moment in her career where she is getting to sing a song for an ‘A’ grade MD, heroine and Film. This film has a very well known song which is posted here.

Expressions of love are varied and come in multitude of flavors. And probably the largest collection of such flavors are the songs of Hindi films. It is remarkable that in each film, the poets, and the directors get together and attempt to present these expressions of love in novel and as yet untried ways. And so also in this film and this song. The entire song is presented with the hero firmly clasping one hand of the heroine and not letting her go, while all the time he is singing words, exhorting her to leave if she wants to, nobody is stopping her – Jaaiye Jaaiye Huzoor, Aapko Kis Ne Rokaa Hai.

“Shikaar” (1968) is not to be confused with “Shikaari” (1963) though I always confuse between the two. The confusion is further compounded by the facts that both these movies have the same singers and they have sung some fantastic songs in both these movies.

I continue to be more and more amazed at the qulaity of music director Ganesh’s music. He could create amazingly popular songs even when he created these songs for C grade movies.
