And that is reflected in this blog too where Hemant Kumar has completed his century of songs as a music director and as a playback singer both. To this date, he is the only artist in the blog to have done so.

“Tum na aaye sanam shamma jalti rahi” is one of those rare gems which involves all B-grade names apart from the peerless Lata Mangeshkar herself.
It is her sublime rendering of this number on a lesser light of that period, namely, Vijaya Chowdhary, with B-grade Bollywood hero Ranjan sometimes in the frame.

“Jaao Kahin Bhi Sanam, Tumhen Itni Kasam, Hamen Yaad Rakhnaa” .

Words that are pretentious and pre-sentimental. A song from the 1961 film ‘Zabak’, performed on screen by Shyama and Mahipal; a song that has become a perennial favorite across generations. And its heroine, flying at the heights of popularity at that time. Little was she aware that it was just about the peak she would be at, and then, the old order would change and the new players will come on.
