“Tum na aaye sanam shamma jalti rahi” is one of those rare gems which involves all B-grade names apart from the peerless Lata Mangeshkar herself.
It is her sublime rendering of this number on a lesser light of that period, namely, Vijaya Chowdhary, with B-grade Bollywood hero Ranjan sometimes in the frame.

I have a 78 RPM record (N.50600) of the song ‘saathi na bane koi’ from film DHUAAN (1953) sung by Krishna Goel which was set to music by Dhaniram. Since I was not able to listen to this record (which in any case is in poor condition) for want of a record player, I have been searching for the audio clip of the same on the internet sites.

“Aplam Chaplam” (1961) was a Mukti Pictures Presentation. It was directed by Roop K Shorey. The starcast of this small budget movie had names like Manju, Tiwari, I. S. Johar, W. M. Khan, Kumkum, Jeevan, Tabassum, Tuntun, Badri Prasad etc in it.

Aadi Narayana Rao and directed by Vedantam Raghavaiah in 1957, the Hindi version Suvarna Sundari (original in Telugu) is rightfully remembered most for its iconic raagmalika (a multi-raag number) – perhaps a first in a Hindi movie – the famed Lata-Rafi duet Kuhu-kuhu bole koyaliya. “Do Raaste”(1970) is a well known movie because this movie had Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz in it, with the stars of both of them being on the rise. This movie was produced and directed by Raj Khosla. The movie had Rajesh Khanna, Mumtaz, Balraj Sahni, Jayant, Veena, Mohan Choti, Birbal, Asit Sen, Randhir, Leela Misra, Bindu, Mehmood Junior, Kamini Kaushal, Prem Chopra etc in it.
