A long time ago there was a song “Bachpan ke din bhula na dena” (Deedar 1951). Then there was “Bachpan ke din bhi kya din thhey” (Sujata 1959). Well we generally remember everything that happens in our life (good bad or ugly). But the good things of life we definitely do not forget and say “These are a few of my favourite things” (The Sound of Music – I only know the 1965 movie). Now all these movies mentioned above were before my time but the songs I have referred to from them are true to every one I suppose.

‘Isi ka naam duniya hai’ (1962) is a film starring Ashok Kumar, Shyama, Mehmood & Sahira etc. A few songs of this movie that I have found on youtube are all picturised on Mehmood and Sahira. Only one song from this film is posted in the blog. For the second song from this movie, I had a choice among three Mehmood songs that I have seen. With careful consideration, I decided on this party song, which is also a piano song.

Since this blog has much to do with nostalgia, I too sometimes (often) go back into the past of the blog and go through old posts of the blog. On quite a few occasions, I am myself surprised to find the contents of articlea that I had myself written. These days I no longer find time to delve deep into each individual songs and offer comments on the songs. Thoroughly exploring each and every song was a luxury that I could afford four years ago when the blog was truly one song a day blog. 🙂

” All men are created equal, but some are more equal” wrote British author George Orwell,in his famous book ” The Animal Farm”. His prophetic words proved especially true about conditions in India post Independence. It is an open secret that Nepotism, or helping your friends/relatives with posts or preferences which they may not deserve is a common practice in India.

Here comes a party song, performed by Mehmood in the film “Neela Aakash”” (1965). All songs of this movie are marvellous, including the one removed/unused from the film. I will come to that song in the next post.

“Begunaah” (1957) was a movie whose story was plagiarised from an American movie namely “Knock on Wood” (1954). Plagiarisation from foreign movies have been going on from olden days and filmakers indulge in it with impunity even today. It would seem that “Begunaah” (1957) was the only movie which has even been penalised for this act. When Paramount Pictures, the makers of “Knock on Wood” (1954) came to know about the fact that “Begunaah” (1957) was copied from their movie, they look legal action in a Bombay court. Much to the astonishment of Indian movie fraternity and legal circles, the Indian court ordered the destruction of all copies of “Begunaah” (1957). The movie, which was already released, had to be withdrawn from movie halls and the prints were destroyed. all this happened quite swiftly. The court gave its decision within six weeks of filint the case and the prints were destroyed in another three months time.
