Wow. Wow. And wow. Earlier, I never did pay any attention to the songs of this film. One of those also-ran mythological stories which make up the list of movies of any year in that era. Haan theek hai, will check it out when there is more time at hand etc. Now, coming to the implementation of this series, and the home work assigned to me by Khyati Ben, I am reviewing the available songs of films that still are waiting in the wings to find their place on our blog. And I come to the next available film in this series – ‘Shiv Parvati’ from 1962. And within that film, I come to this song – and wow.

Here is a Rafi-Lata duet from the film Phandebaaz (1978). The music director is R. D. Burman and lyricist is Anand Bakshi. The film was a comedy, which I have seen on T.V. long back. Only thing i could remember is the song ‘Abhi barah nahin baje hain’. The film stars Dharmendra and Moushmi Chatterjee as hero and heroine along with Prem chopra, Helen, Bindu, Ranjeet as the gang of villians. One song of the film is posted in the blog Abhi gyaarah nahin baje hain . This should be the second song.

Munshi Premchand (31 July 1880- 8 october 1936) was a premier Hindi novelist whose novels and stories have had an enormous influence on modern Hindi literature. When I look at his literary output, I am amazed at his vision. His vision was unbelievably progressive and futuristic, especially considering the era he lived in (late 19th century to early 20th century).

Talat Mehmood started his musical career in 1939, singing ghazals on All India Radio, Lucknow. He had formally trained in music under Pt. SCR Bhat at the Morris Music College in Lucknow. His voice caught the attention of HMV, with whom he produced many records of non filmi ghazals. His records started gaining popularity, and in 1944 came the phenomenal hit, “Tasveer Teri Dil Mera Behlaa Na Sakegi”, which continues to be a very popular number on ghazal selections even today. The Calcutta film industry took notice and Talat moved to Calcutta. Initially, in Calcutta, he recorded many Bengali songs both for films and non-films, under the name ‘Tapan Kumar’. Talat as a person, had a handsome and commanding appearance and was offered cameo roles in the movies. In 1949, he moved to Bombay. After the release of “Aarzoo” (1950) and the unbeatable hit “Ae Dil Mujhe Aisi Jageh Le Chal”, composed by Anil Biswas, there was no looking back.
