“Anurodh” (1977) is a movie that paired erstwhile superstar Rajesh Khanna with Simple Kapadia, his sister in law. The movie did not do as well as was expected of this movie. But what lovely songs this movie had ! In fact, this movie is remembered today mainly for its songs.

Mukesh, a voice filled with magic, a poignant and a simple, unpretentious sound. A voice that attracts with its sweet mellifluous tones. A voice that remains a unique rendition to date. Never up there is the top brackets like Rafi Saab or Kishore Da. And yet, the voice that has left an indelible mark on the Hindi film music. This is a gem of a song. And still this song is not known to too many people. By now I am no longer surprised or shocked by this fact that many great songs of yesteryears have been allowed to be lost to oblivion. Indians by and large are not keen students of history and they do not have much appreciation of their rich legacy, so showing callous disregard to such great works of art will naturally follow.

“Nayaa Kaanoon” (1965) was a movie starring an over the hill Bharat Bhushan with Vyjyanti Mala. This movie was a box office disasater.
As a result, the songs of this movie suffered. So much so that few people are aware of these songs. It is a pity because these songs are so nice to listen to, and they would have done well had the movie done better.

Most music directors have their own musical style and if one listens to the music of a song, one can often identify the music director.
But sometimes music directors may copy the musical style of other more established music directors. We have seen music directors copying the musical styles of O P Nayyar,Shankar Jaikishan etc in the past.
