I had mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I keep an excel sheet to keep track of all the songs posted, as well as all the farmaishes sent by readers. It appears that Sid, a longtime reader and farmaish sender of this blog also maintains an excel sheet to keep track of the farmaishes sent. 😀 Sid would often remind me of farmaishes sent long time back.

Recently I posted a hand rickshaw song in this blog. That song was from “Dil Tera Deewaanaa”.

In the comments of that song, it was mentioned by Lalitha that there was another hand rickshaw song in the movie “Chhoti Behan” and she gave that song as her farmaish.

Here is a qawwali from “Dharmputra” (1961) which I am told is a very popular qawwali. Farmaish for this song was given by Sid and Raja very promptly provided me with the lyrics of this song, telling me that this song is one of his all time favourites. Thanks to the lyrics provided by him, the time needed for getting the lyrics right (which is the major job for me while posting any song) was saved, and here is this qawwali.

Here is a teasing song that is a beach song as well where boys (Dev Anand, Johny Walker) and girls (Vyjyanti Mala etc) are assembled at a beach. The first commandment of Bollywood movies is- “Though shall sing.” So a song ensues in which Dev Saab, all of 44 years, acts like a teenager teasing a 30 plus Vaijyanti Mala who is herself dressed like a teenager in a figure hugging tight dress. Johny Walker gives able company to the hero, as do other extras.

One song from “Barkha” was discussed in the past where Jagdeep is shown driving a bullock cart and singing a song. It turns out that Jagdeep has another song in the movie and this time he sings it while ferring a few people in a boat. One actor lip syncing two songs while using two different modes of transportation ! It must be quite rare, I am sure. I have not seen the movie, and so I cannot say for sure if Jagdeep is shown singing more songs in this movie while riding bicycle, buffalo, helicopter etc. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

The revised writeup of this song is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie songs and a regular contributor to this song.

As one looks back on the history of cinema, one finds that even the main line actors who are considered A grade, and the movies sell by their name, also end up acting in movies that are obscure and did not catch the attention at the box office. This movie, Ek Ka Baad Ek, from 1960, is one such movie of Dev Anand. By the time this movie was released, Dev Anand was an established and expensive star with a huge number of hits from the 1950s behind him. Then in 1960, he acted in this movie whose rest of the star cast included Sharda, Heeralal, Tarla, Prabhu Dayal, SK Prem, Radha Kishen, Madhu Apte, Ravi Kant etc. The actress Sharda mentioned here is the elder sister of actor Vinod Mehra, who made his mark on the screen about a decade and a half later. From the memoriam message displayed at the beginning of the movie, this is the last movie that the great actor Radhakishen appeared in. In fact this movie is produced by his son but unfortunately, Radhakishen himself could not live long enough to see its release.
