I became aware of the movie “Do Dishaayen” (1982) while posting Yesuda’s Vishesh Jaimala programme’s transcript in another of my blogs. This movie is such an obscure movie that its songs were not available on internet in any form.

This song is indeed the reason why we remember this movie called “Prem Nagar” to this date. The movie, which turned out to be a box office disaster despite boasting of the biggest names of the industry viz Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini, had a story line that failed to appeal to the movie goers.

It is difficult to believe it now, but both Guru Dutt and Meena Kumari actually used to play happy roles when they began their acting careers. It was sometime in late 1950s that both began to act in sad roles and they both got typecast into such roles so much that their past roles were soon forgotten.

I may not be the only person to note that majority of songs in Bollywood are about love. In these songs, the lead actors would fall in love and then sing love songs.

While posting another Lata song from this movie, I had commented that “Mera Saaya” had as many as four immortal Lata songs. After posting “naino me badra chaaye”, I now post the title song from this movie viz “tu jahan jahan rahega mera saaya saath hoga”.
