Today’s song is from film ‘Chaand Taara’ (1945). This song is sung by Noor Mohammed ‘Charlie ‘ and chorus. Today (30th June) is the anniversary of Charlie’s passing away in 1983. This song is in his memory. This song also happen to be a parody song. No, no, I am not doing a series on parody songs. It is just a coincidence that I got hold of a second rare song which is also a parody song.

His name – Mazhar Khan, a forgotten name not only for the current generation but also for many in my generation as well.

Sajjaad Hussain – a name that invokes a feeling of rare and precious stones. Treasures that are scarce, and extremely hard to come by. Treasures that are small in numbers to start with anyway. And treasures that are extremely valuable, like diamonds of unusual and endearing qualities. Diamonds imbued with qualities that invoke surprise in how the emotions blend with the words, that blend into the music, that is breathtaking at times. Treasures always number very few. Songs composed by Sajjaad Sb are such precious treasures, discoveries of the remaining few of which is always a titillating celebration for the aficionados.

The first song from the film CHAAND CHAKORI (1945), jogan banaa ke piyaa chhod gayo galiyon mein was posted on the Blog about 6 years back. Since then, no more songs from the film were covered in the Blog. In the write-up to the first song from the film, Atul ji had mentioned that very little information about the film was available online. At that time, I doubt whether any songs from this film was available on YT as I find that the first and the only song out of 13 songs from the film was uploaded by Atul ji on YT.

PRATIMA (1945) was produced under the banner of Bombay Talkies and it was directed by Jairaj. Dilip Kumar and Swarnlata were in the lead roles with Jyoti, Shah Nawaz, P F Peetahwala, Mumtaz Ali, Mukri etc in supporting roles. It was the second film for Dilip Kumar. Among the films in which Dilip Kumar acted in the 1940s, ‘Pratima’ (1945) may well be his least known film. I was surprised to note that not much information about the film was available on ‘Filmindia’ magzines of 1945 issues. The film had not fared well at the box office.
