“Aakaash” (1953) was a Manmohan Films production, where Manmohan stood for Manmohan Sabir. He was the director of this movie as well. The movie had actors like Badri Prasad, Balraj Sahni, Nadira, Shammi, Manmohan Krishna, Agha, Jilloo etc.

When I saw the lyrics of this song (sent by Prakashchandra), I felt that this song was discussed long back. But despite my thorough checking, I drew a blank. So here was another well known song that had somehow remained undiscussed all these days, while I was under the impression that I had already discussed it.

“Footpath” (1953) is a movie starring Dilip Kumar and Meena Kumari. This movie has some nice songs in it and as many as four songs from this movie have been discussed here in the past.

While discussing songs, I often like to discuss songs that are rare/ unusual/unexpected in some ways. For example, songs sung by people normally not known for their singing, songs composed by people who are normally known for some other activity, lyricist/music director/singer figuring in the picturisation of the song etc.

Though I subscribe to three newspapers daily, I rarely go through much of their contents and the newspapers finally end up with the “raddiwala” after a few months. But on saturdays I look forward to these newspapers, rather to one column of one newspaper. It is the “Swar panchami” column of Hindi newspaper “Dainik Bhaskar”. In this column, Vividh Bharati radio announcer Yunus Khan discusses a few old songs. And as can be guessed, this topic is right up my alley.

There may be more Hindi movies called “Laila Majnu” than one can count, but the two main movies of this title that I can readily recall are the ones that came in 1953 and 1976. The 1953 movie had Nutan and Shammi Kapoor playing the legendary lovers while the same roles wre enacted by Ranjeeta and Shammi Kapoor’s nephew Rishi Kapoor , respectively.

“Hazaar Raatein” (1953) is quite an obscure movie with equally obscure songs. That has not stopped us from discussing as many as two songs from this movie already in this blog.
