I had listened to this song quite a few times in 1970s and later forgot all about it. I was so pleased to stumble upon this song again yesterday, like one meets long lost acquaintances in Bollywood movies.

I am a big fan of Ganesh, the forgotten music director of 1960s and 1970s. He was the younger brother of Pyarelal (of Laxmikant Pyarelal duo).

This song was a long pending farmaish since last october. I was unable to comply with this farmaish for the simple reason that I had no clue about this song. In fact, I was not aware about this 1975 movie called “Sunahra Sansaar”.

Enjoying songs without knowing any details of the song and then forgetting all about that song means that when you recall the song, you have no means to locate that song. You feel helpless. You know about the song, but you do not have enough clues to help you.

“Amaanat” was a movie starring Manoj Kumar and Sadhana. I find that the date of release of this movie is shown as 1977. Considering that Sadhana had retired from movies in late 1960s, I think that “Amaanat” was a movie picturised in 1960s and accordingly I thought that it was a movie of 1967 rather than 1977.That is the only explanation for the kind of dresses worn by Sadhana and Manoj Kumar in this movie which are incongruous with the dressing styles of 1970s. This movie has an iconic song that goes “matlab nikal gaya hai to pahchaante .”. I am fully convinced that I have been listening to this song from 1960s itself.

“Zakhmee” (1975) had quite a few wonderful songs. For long I thought that these songs were composed by R D Burman. It was much later that I realised that this movie in fact was the debut movie of Bappi Lahiri as a music director.

The movie “Faraar” is one of the lesser known movies of Amiatbh Bachchan. In fact, any movie just off the beaten track tended to end up becoming a lesser known movie, since the Bollywood spectators were just not mature enough to patronise movies that were even slightly different.
