In late 1950s, party songs based on western music and accompanied by a dance by a female had become a rage in Bollywood movies. “Mera Naam chin Chin Choo” from “Howrah Bridge” (1958) is a good example of such a song. This song was sung by Geeta Dutt and it was picturised on Helen.

“Guest House” (1959) is an obscure movie by now. It is a movie where Ajit and Shakila played lead roles. Yes, those were the days when Ajit used to act as hero.

With Kishore Kumar acting in a movie, there is never a dull moment. And it is noticeable that he shares a great onscreen chemistry with his heroines, be it Meen Kumari, Madhubala, Nutan, Mala Sinha, Sadhana etc etc.

Yesterday I posted a wonderful “roadside tamasha” song picturised on Minu Mumtaz and Johny Walker from “Ek Saal” (1957).
The song must have caught the imagination of the movie goers, and the same duo played similar roles in subsequent movies as well.

This was not a song that was created with the aim of becoming an all time classic, nor did it become one. It was a light hearted song, which was Shankar Jaikishan’s way of taking a dig at the fad of copying Western music and using them in Bollywood movies.

I have watched a few songs of “Bank Manager” (1959) and I have noticed that Meenu Mumtaz seems to have a long role in this movie. She certainly has got a few songs to sing in this movie.

Most movies in which Madan Mohan gave music are obscure movies. But the music in all those movies, irrespective of the quality of such movies (indifferent most of the time) has always been top quality.
