#the Decade of Eighties – 1981 – 1990 #

Today 22nd December’2024 is the 6001st day for the blog. So it is another important day since it is the ‘starting point’ of a ‘new beginning’ again. At one of my previous employer my senior always uses to say that the first day of every month is the most suitable day to start anything new. Here the context was of implementing new things, new procedures, new SOPs at workplace. In our day to day routine also when a calendar month ends and a new month begins we generally are excited and it does give a ‘new feeling’ and motivates to take a ‘fresh guard’. I remember in my childhood days when the song from ‘Pehli Taareekh’ used to play on radio, listening to it was very joyful, and even now whenever this song is played on ‘Vividh Bhartee’ on first day of a month it gives me the same excitement and feeling.

Hullo Atuldom
“Chor police” (1983) was the directorial debut of Amjad Khan and produced by his wife Shehla Khan and Vinay Kumar Sinha (who was Amjad Khan’s secretary too). It was presented by Cinema International. It had R D Burman’s music and songs were written by Nida Fazli & Vithalbhai Patel (as per the movie’s titles). Suresh Wadkar, Asha Bhonsle, Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar, Vinod Sehgal and Vanita Mishra were the playback singers used.

Today 27th November’2024 is the seventy-second birth anniversary of Composer Singer Bappi Lahiri (27.11.1952-15.02.2022). Bappi Da as he was fondly called has been known for the legacy of his disco music that he brought to the Hindi Films. But apart from disco based songs there are many other memorable songs in Hindi Film Music which were composed by Bappi Lahiri.

There are many coal mines in India, mostly located in Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh etc. Post-independence, there have been at least half-a-dozen disasters in coal mines in India with high casualties. Coal mines are prone to explosion because of the presence of gas and coal dust which are inflammable. The main actors included Kiran Vairale, Ravi Baswani, Manju Mishra and Akhil Mishra with supporting actors consisting of Abhi Bhattacharya, Prem Kapoor, Bhuvan Singh, Suren Sharma, Master Rinku etc. The film is a romantic comedy written by Akhil Mishra who along with his wife, Manju Mishra produced the film apart from acting in the film. It was their first film as producers.

“Andhaa Kanoon” (1983) was a movie that was produced by A. Purnachandra Rao & directed by T. Rama Rao. Its music was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and lyricist was Anand Bakshi. Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, S.P. Balasubramaniam & Baby Rajeshwari were the playback singer used for the eight songs of the film of which one song Rote rote hansna seekho hanste hanste ronaa was a multi-part song; of which Kishore Kumar had a happy & sad version as also Baby Rajeshwari who got to sing a few lines of the song.

It has Mahendra Sandhu, Danny Denzongpa, Vijayendra Ghatge, Ranjeet, Neeta Mehta, Deepika, Master Ravi, Viju Khote, Rajan Haksar, Kamaldeep, Kirti Kumar, Uttam Sodhi, Ashok Narayan, Manohar, Randhawa, Sudhir, Jayshree T., Darshan, A Mishra, Devendra Marshall, Mahendra, Mirza, Tilak Raj and others. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 30.05.1983.

Today 18 july 2024 is the remembrance day of Rajesh Khanna. I know (thanks to media coverage) that he passed away on this date, but it still comes as a huge surprise to me to realise that 12 years have gone by since that date. How time flies. It seems like yesterday when I was listening to Binaca geetmala final on the last wednesday of 1971, when almost every song that got played was picturised on Rajesh Khanna, including the number one song. Then I realise that 1971 was 53 years ago. More than half a century ago. The world has changed considerably from those days.
