Just a little while ago Peevesie’s mom was informed by her son (Peevesie’s brother) that today (14 august) was Johny Lever’s birthday. I was aware of this fact, but I was not aware of any songs for the occasion. There are circumstances due to which films are abandoned midway during production. There are also cases where films have been completed, but once again due to some reasons, they do not get released. Many such films are lost to oblivion, and with them, also lost is the music that was created for them. The examples may be not many, but still it is not uncommon that such films and music from such films exists. For some such films, good fortune has prevailed and their music has become available over time, either officially released even though the film never saw the light of the silver screen, or unofficially put out into the gray market or on the internet.

Kishore Kumar is mostly known for singing happy songs. But he has sung sad songs as well , and they are more in number than we tend to believe. And out of all these songs that he has sung, there are some gems that are less known than they should be. For instance, I have posted his sad songs from “Nishaan” (Lahron ki tarah yaadein ) and “Begaana”(Matlabi hain log yahan par ) in this blog which are absolute gems.

Music director Ravi is one person who entered Bollywood music scene in 1940s ( as an assistant music director) and he was around for the entire period that is regarded as the golden era of Bollywood music. He in fact can be described as one of the very few such persons who was there when the golden era began and he was still around when that era was over. All this while, he held his own . He was never jobless and he continued to churn out hit songs without fail.

“Chaandni” was like a welcome musical oasis among the desert of plagiarised disco music in 1980s. And the fact that the music directors of this movie, shiv Hari had worked with legendary music directors of the golden era of Bollywood music certainly helped.

The golden era of Bollywood movie songs was supposed to have ended circa 1980 when lyrics took the backseat and music became synonymous with plagiarised disco beats. Most songs of 1980s had trouble maintaining their popularity for more than a few weeks. Creation of all time great timeless classics became a thing of the past in 1980s.

Here is a funny and feel good song from a Amitabh Bachchan movie called “Toofan” (1989). Few people remember this movie now, but I for one thought that the movie was fairly good by the standards of Amitabh Bachchan movies of those days. I in fact watched this movie more than once.
