“Nai Dilli” (1956) was a movie starring Kishore Kumar and Vyjyanti Mala. This movie to my mind was a landmark movie in my mind because one could see the New Delhi of that time and amuse oneself by comparing that with the present day New Delhi. Many present day landmarks of New Delhi were non existent or looked very different those days.

It is unbelievable, but this song is from a movie 70 years old. Yes, “Dushman” (1939) was released 70 years ago. How time fhas flown. It seems just a few days ago ( but was actually 40 years ago) when I used to scoff at such songs though such songs were just 30 years old at that time.

I am of the opinion that most great Bollywood songs on any topic were created before 1980. After 1980, there was a steady deterioration in the quality of such songs where lyrics took the back seat and plagiarised “disco” tunes replaced erstwhile tunes.

“Silsila” was based on the real life story of Amitabh Bachchan , Jaya Bhaduri and Rekha. To this day, wonder how all three of them agreed to wash their dirty linens in public in this movie.
